Bungles earned his bread by painting houses and engaged in this pursuit, his "Heagle heye" led him to gaze into the fair face of a damsel in evident distress. Hoisting himself up to her window, he learned that she was to be forcibly married to a silly old beau by an ambitious father. That was enough for Bungles. Immediately he became a knight. She, eager to escape, throws a knotted sheet down and he climbs to the window and enters her room, where the young lovers have their first kiss. The father hears them and peeping through the keyhole sees cash and notes strewn on the floor, same having rolled from the pockets of our Romeo. The old beau, having returned home and discovered his loss receives a message from the father, asking him to return at once. Arriving at the house, the door is burst in, but Bungles escapes up the chimney, and after an exciting escapade wins the girl and punishes the pursuers. Then all is forgotten in the joy of his brilliant elopement.
