An entertaining film.
husnain_058 December 2005
This movie is great.Arthur,D.W.,Buster,Muffy,Alan,Francine,Binky and the rest of the crew are preparing for Christmas in this enchanting film. Arthur brings his mum a present that she really likes because he broke it the year before and he is very upset when he breaks it again this year. Arthurs uncle brings a different present that she also likes and gives it to Arthur to give to his mum. Francine and Muffy break up and they both miss each other and then they become friends again. This movie was a really entertaining film and it was very fun to watch and the crew were cool as usual.Arthur and Buster were the best in this film and so was Arthurs uncle.

An animated Christmas special unlike any other
Stompgal_8714 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
As a fan of the original television series, this special undoubtedly appealed to me. I watched this on YouTube yesterday and I enjoyed it for the most part despite the first and last musical numbers being somewhat forgettable and the story being predictable in places.

The animation has the same sketchy and smooth look as the television series and I especially liked the backgrounds of the shopping centre, Muffy's house during her Christmas party scene and the snowy exterior outside Arthur's house towards the end. The storyline is as educational as some of those in the series in terms of teaching viewers about different festivities that are celebrated at roughly the same time as Christmas such as Hanukkah (celebrated by Francine and her family) and Kwanzaa (celebrated by Alan/Brain and his family) plus also Buster creates his own festivity known as Baxter Day. Not only does the storyline have realistic, educational elements but also some subtle toilet humour (D.W. barging in on Arthur when he is using the bathroom) and funny moments from Uncle Fred. Despite two forgettable songs, I liked the musical numbers from Muffy and Buster as well as the irritatingly catchy Talking Tina Tabby song and the festive incidental music. The characters were as appealing as they were in the original series, especially Arthur and his endearing family.

Overall, this is the best Christmas special I've seen for a while and it is different from any other I have ever seen. 8.5/10.

A Wonderful Story
Hollywood_Yoda26 September 2018
Arthur's Perfect Christmas is a great addition to the PBS animated series. With a story all its own and not a remake or homage to Its a Wonderful Life or A Christmas Carol (like so many other shows do).

The story is of a little boy, Arthur, trying to buy each family member the perfect gift. It's a very sweet story, and possibly one of the best TV Christmas specials in existence. If you enjoy the regular Arthur series, you are sure to enjoy Arthur's Perfect Christmas year after year!

An underrated holiday spectacular
StevePulaski24 December 2010
Arthur's Perfect Christmas is a beautiful and colorful masterpiece in the world of animated TV specials. I don't think I've seen another special that made me feel as warmed and welcomed as this. Arthur is my favorite PBS Kids show, and has been for the last nine years. From old episodes where there are several animation errors, and plot holes to the new cleaned up ones that have crystal clear HD and sound to them, I love Arthur. And it will take a monumental thing to shatter my love for it.

Something about Arthur stuck with me since day one. I had all the books out by age five, and read them countless times. I kept watching the show on PBS, memorized all the characters full names, and printed off many episode guides which cost my mom about $100 in ink. Of course now my obsessions is turned into a "Like" on Facebook, I'm not shy to revisit Arthur on a pretty close day to day basis. Arthur's Perfect Christmas is the reason I still love the show.

Arthur wants the Christmas of a lifetime. He wants everything to go 100% perfect, and have nothing go wrong. But boy is he in for a valuable lesson this evening. Aside from Arthur's Christmas, we see how his friend Buster spends the holiday season as well. It mostly consists of his constant frustration over his mom's controlling and strict schedule in hopes to give Buster a better Christmas year after year.

Aside from the ones who do celebrate Christmas, Arthur has friends like Francine who are Jewish, and celebrate the holiday of Hanaukah. Francine loves to spend time with her friends/family, but her best friend Muffy doesn't understand that there are other holidays that coincide with Christmas. Plus we briefly see Arthur's friend, nicknamed "The Brain", celebrate Kwanza with his family.

Arthur is definitely a unique show to say the least. It isn't always about the title character. Even in regular episodes of the show it sometimes focuses on secondary characters. Sometimes Arthur doesn't even appear in the damn episode. But that's good. I think after approximately ten to eleven seasons of constant Arthur, it wouldn't hurt to let Binky, Brain, Sue Ellen, Fern, and Prunella see the viewers for once.

As far as complaining, it's a Christmas special so whether you've seen it or not, you know someone's not going to get the gift they please. Unlike Caillou's whining, DW does have her moment, but it's resolved faster than any of Caillou's dreaded whining fiascos ever.

Like a countless number of TV specials, Arthur's Perfect Christmas is a musical special, most likely so kids can sing along if they have seen the specials countless times. Many other shows utilized this format like Caillou's Holiday Movie to name one I recently reviews. This special is Oscar worthy when compared to that garbage. The songs in the movie are very well written. I do like the end reprise the best, and it's probably my favorite ending to any TV special yet.

Arthur's Perfect Christmas serves as one of my favorite Christmas specials. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus is my favorite movie of Christmas, and this goes for the TV special category. As I stated before, kids today may not see this special, and will watch the current episodes/specials of Dinosaur Train or Word World and share their recollection of the show. Maybe they'll even write a review on it like myself...doubt it.

All-Inclusive Holiday Joy
RyanNijakowski21 October 2018
I was just a child when Arthur's Perfect Christmas was released on VHS. It is a wonderful, even Millennial, example of how Christmastime is not just for Christians, Americans, nor commercialization. It offers a little something for everyone. Not only does it offer something to appease those who celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, but it also has an Atheist and Agnostic alternative through the Buster Baxter storyline. Arthur has always offered a politically correct, family-friendly, and altruistic body of work that past and future generations can enjoy.

This Could Be A Classic...

Warning: Spoilers
I've watched this movie every year since it came out and I don't intend to stop. I've even made it part of my family's Christmas Movie List. I just love the way this movie shows acceptance of others for their different beliefs, it even showcases different celebrations from the "traditional Christmas" celebration.

*Spoliers are listed from this point on.*

The children in the classroom learn how George's family celebrates Saint Lucia and Muffy learns why Francine won't come to the Christmas party she throws for the school.

At the end of the movie you see how all the main characters celebrate their holiday in Elwood City.

Arthur's Perfect Christmas Special
thechickinthemiddle24 September 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Well, first of all,Arthur's Perfect Christmas is mainly about the people of Elwood City trying to have the best Christmas ever. Many threads of accompanying stories are weaved into this fabric, like Francine trying to get Muffy to understand why Hannukah is so important to her,Arthur buying a glass bird for his mom,and Buster wanting to create a new holiday that's all about relaxing and doing what you want.Included also are looks into other holidays, like St.Lucia Day,Kwanzaa, and Hannukah.Great running gags too, like Binky making holiday desserts wrong(like unshelled pecans in pecan pie).A funny part is on Christmas Day,when D.W. sees Uncle Fred(who's visiting the Reads)shaving in red pajamas, she thinks she saw Santa Claus. When she runs to tell Dad,Fred leaves and Arthur goes in to pee.D.W. opens the bathroom door and sees Arthur, who then screams.Priceless(other than extremely funny!)!

Also,we get the Arthur's Perfect Christmas version of Crazy Bus:The theme song for Tina the Talking Tabby,a toy that D.W. desperately wants for Christmas.

Overall, this is the best Christmas special ever! The reason why no other Christmas Special is better is because this is from one of the best shows ever.

So celebrate with Arthur and the gang and get nauseated by Tina the Talking Tabby.10 outta 10.

Tries a Little Too Hard
wannerfamily@hotmail.com24 October 2002
Warning: Spoilers
This hour-long Christmas special isn't bad, but it tries too hard to be all things to all people. Showing different cultures' celebrations is one of the strongest aspects of the show, but I don't really know anyone who ignores Christmas and only celebrates Kwanzaa! (Also don't know too many ice cream parlors open on Christmas Day!) (Spoiler below) I question why the writers chose to make it fairly clear to young viewers that DW's parents bought the gift that was supposedly from Santa. It won't take long for a young child to figure that out, and it's too bad that a holiday special tries, in a sense, to ruin that magic for children.

Warning: Spoilers
I used to watch this movie every year near the pagan holiday times.

The short little movie was so good even though I don't partake is Xmass pagan day. It's a warm sentimental movie fro. Start to finish.

It was a wholesome show that aged well over its time.

Now today we get horror and cringy Xmass specials.

Verdict: DW saw Arthur's @#$%
