Jason Lee and Tom Green in Stealing Harvard (2002)

Goofs

Stealing Harvard

Edit

Continuity

When Duff is making the little kid cut the branch, it lands on the trunk of the car, then falls onto the street. In the next shot, the branch is back on the trunk of the car.
When the judge takes the picture of John, the gun is lying on the table in front of them. When we see the picture later, the judge has the gun draped over John's shoulder.
The position of John's hat on his nose before he and Duff enter the liquor store changes between shots.
Duff's cigarette is facing outward when John claims to be burned.
When Tom Green is brushing his goatee with the Detective's toothbrush, the bristles are by his thumb. In the next shot, the bristles are by his pinky.

Factual errors

The liquor store cashier can get in trouble for giving false information to the cops. He claims that John and Duff shot the sign even though the cashier was caught on video and he claims that they stole pornographic magazines and chocolate milk. The security cameras don't lie.

Revealing mistakes

A sticking plaster is used to prevent the door of the Homespital from locking during the burglary, however it is clearly a dead lock door which would not automatically lock.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

After Duff makes an offer on the house, he slams down the telephone handset so hard that we hear it "ping". The phone is a digital model and would not have a bell inside.

Plot holes

John showing up late to his niece's spelling bee and promising to pay for her to go to college is all caught on home video. But since John, his sister, and his niece are all in the video, there doesn't seem to be anyone left to shoot it. More than that, the camera angle repeatedly shifts, indicating that two cameras were taping the event and that the two versions were later edited together
After John finds out that his niece got accepted into Harvard and needs $30,000 for her tuition. John could've told Elaine that his niece needs $30,000 to go to college earlier instead of trying to turn into a life of crime and even if the Realtor accepted the money from John and Elaine for the house they're interested in. Elaine could've asked her father for a loan or even John could've asked the bank for a loan.

Character error

Duff tells Elaine that Gruyère cheese is from Gruyères in Switzerland, and she corrects him by saying that it's French, but Duff is right.
When it turns out that Duff had to wear a blonde wig and a dress and spoon with the judge for the $1,000 he gives to John which John uses to make a bet on a horse. Duff could've asked the judge for $30,000 unless the judge refused.
