The battle ship in the movie is supposed to be the USS Iowa. The call number on the Iowa is BB-61. Throughout the movie, when the camera is panning the ship out at sea, it clearly shows "63" on the bow of the ship. That number is assigned for the USS Missouri (Mighty Mo). The crew members are all wearing hats that show BB-61 on them, so it is obvious that the ship used to portray the Iowa is not the real Iowa.
GM1 Mortensen and GMCM Ziegler are shown drinking beer on board the USS Iowa. It is against Navy Regulations to consume beer or any other form of alcohol on a U.S. Navy ship. Only medicinal brandy is allowed.
The command-at-sea pin worn on the captain's khakis is the large one worn on dress uniforms. The one worn on khakis is a smaller, miniature version.
Some navy officers are shown wearing their command-at-sea pin on their left shirt pocket. When worn on the left side of a shirt, it is worn on the pocket flap, not the pocket.
Meyer is interchangeable referred to as "Ensign" and "Lieutenant," but was never promoted during the film.
The Captain refers to himself as a 'soldier' rather than a 'sailor' while talking to the officers of the ship.
In early 1990, Meyer is wearing a National Defense Service Medal ribbon on his uniform, when he would not have gotten it until 1991.

The Captain (James Caan) makes the statement "Soldiers don't go home in garbage bags." No U.S. Navy officer would ever call a U.S. Navy sailor a "soldier".
