Never a dull moment in this fast-paced comedy drama.

Roberto, Karo, Istvan and Jano are four Hungarians all good friends who years ago discovered a deserted island in the Danube.... an island where they have always found peace and quiet away from the hectic life of the city. So they called it "their" island.

Unfortunately this idyllic setting becomes a disappointment when they discover an expensive fishing rod ( a Davies) is missing, presumably stolen. These high-spirited, noisy, frolicsome young men so at peace with the world become suddenly morose and quarrelsome. And one of them is allergic to the swarms of mosquitoes.

It takes a little while to sort out the characters and their names and their backgrounds. More is revealed as the story progresses.

Into the picture comes Pedrad a Serb who in his big boat has struck a sand bank at the island's edge. Drama takes over from light comedy when they discover the Yugoslav is fishing from his boat with a Davies fishing rod. Jumping to conclusions they decide to retrieve the stolen rod and do unmentionable things to the culprit.

The film is very exciting when they work out an ingenious plan but when they act on it tragedy overtakes them.

The film begins on such a happy-go-lucky note and ends as a horrifying drama with the four holiday makers filled with guilt. One wonders with the memory of this last holiday fixed firmly in their minds if they will ever decide to return to that island they call their own.
