NBC never gave this a chance
garyviews2 January 2022
I am genuinely surprised that NBC never gave this show a chance and left it to die. After watching every single episode of the series, with them being archived on the internet, I can safely say that Sammy is one of NBC's most interesting tv shows ever made, poking the right amount of quips at contemporary Hollywood (at the time) and having a lot of heart and bits of character development.

Not my favorite show in the world, but after giving this one a chance I can safely tell you that this one was worth watching. And for having so many popular actors and guest stars attached, I'm surprised it was ever lost to time and shelved forever. Maybe it was a licensing thing which prevented it from being aired? Nonetheless, David Spade really deserved better than the treatment this show got, and I'm glad everyone in the world is now able to watch this. Low-five!

Deserved Better

Sammy wasn't the greatest show of all time, but it was far from the worst. It has heart, style, its finger on the pulse of contemporary Hollywood, and the supporting cast lends itself greatly to mannerisms split between two characters by the same lead.

It didn't deserve to burn off after two episodes, it would've been more practical to sell the remainder to a network that would've welcomed it, as NBC had no interest in this show at that point. Had this run its course entirely on the network then fine, people are allowed to think what they want as they got the full experience.

You could've done far worse, and I can say that with confidence given the glut of low quality adult animation.

NBC should bring back 'Sammy'

I feel bad for David Spade. He makes the best primetime cartoon on television then after only a few episodes NBC cancels it for good. It was an entertaining show about a TV star and his wacky family. Sure, it could of used better voice casting, but it was a funny, heartwarming cartoon for the family. Being a David Spade fan, I think NBC really ripped him off.

Sad

Well, I was about 10 when I first watched this cartoon, and wasn't sad when it disappeared off TV after a couple of episodes. But then it popped up on Youtube, sure I'm older and I get the jokes, but still not impressed. Even today I feel like it could have been better. Sure I enjoy the T&A that's in the cartoon, but really that's the only thing to look forward to in this cartoon. I like to imagine that spade had this failure somewhere in the back of the closet in a shoe box or whatever and some airhead found it, and decided to release it on youtube(probably Andy Dick, because let's be honest, when was the last time he was noticed or mattered?) either way, that's probably where it belongs; in a shoe box or in the garbage.

Once Again, Star Power Takes Precedence over Quality.

And I thought David Spade was annoying in real life. Never would I have imagined that hearing Spade voice two different characters, particularly Sammy, would turn me off so much as to wish for a quick return of the classic primetime flop "Jenny" . Just hearing Sammie speak and looking at his visage that recalls Punchinello makes me wonder how he's attracting all the women he constantly cheats on his wife with. Just because of the fact that the scripts and plotlines of this "comedy" is well below mediocre alone suggests that the series creators (the always creatively precocious NBC executives) relied heavily on the assumed star-power of the former SNL alum. All I can say is that I think my rating is too generous and that I am not sorry that the cancellation happy network put THIS bow-wow series to sleep. (1/2 out of four stars)
