Yuri shows the General a doctored photo of himself sitting with the late supreme leader Joseph Stalin. This iconic photo, which originally had Vladimir Lenin in Yuri's place, was itself doctored by combining a Lenin photo with a Stalin photo. Stalin wanted to rewrite history to show that he had been Lenin's most trusted disciple when in fact Lenin knew Stalin to be a mad dog who would ruin the country if left unchecked. The dying Lenin made a sincere but ultimately futile effort to prevent Stalin from succeeding to the top of the Soviet Union.
On one of the newspapers at the end of the Allied campaign, you can see the date; it is the week of 31 July 1972.
After the 9/11 attacks, the game packaging was revised; instead of an American flag in the target of the Russian soldier's eye, a presumably less offensive and threatening mushroom cloud is shown.
President Dugan's first name, and the name of the French General (seen only before the 5th Allied mission), are never mentioned in the Allied campaign. During the Soviet campaign, reporters briefly mention Michael Dugan and Rene Lyon. The British Prime Minister and the German Chancellor (seen before the 5th Allied mission) are never named at all.
Lt. Eva's name is a pun on EVA, Electronic Video Agent, an artificial intelligence that serves the same character function in the Tiberian story arc within the Command & Conquer franchise.
