Takeaway from the film: Don't overdo
rtoac121 February 2022
This is a Hindi language film starring Dev Anand. Pranoti Ghosh plays a well played key role. Well supported by other legends Abhi Bhattacharya and Mala Sinha.

However the film would have been better by leaving the Love Marriage itself to the end. The title of the film is only relevant to the first hour..

After that the story drags, especially with back to back songs after the first hour. The poster in many places shows cricket, again which has hardly anything to do with the film..

The last 45 minutes makes for good family drama viewing: themes of sacrifice for the sake of family which gelled well with audiences across our culture even up to the 90's.

But as is typical in such films, one feels in the end how courageously speaking the truth can save one and all from misunderstandings and an abyss of pain.. Thus in all the marketing, script, direction, songs and the message of the film, my takeaway is: Don't overdo!!

Themes of the sacred bonding between bhabhi and devar have been reused multiple times across the decades after this film. And rightly so as it's the unique aspect of our culture that we should be proud of.

Performances by the top for in the star cast holds the film together and makes for a decent one time watch.
