Believed lost since its sole screening in 1974, the insane Vancouver-shot horror porn flick Sexcula has been a holy grail for intrepid horror-sleaze grindhouse fans. Now, thanks to Impulse Pictures and Synapse Films, the film is making its DVD world premiere this spring.
Debbie Collins plays dual roles as vampiric Countess Sexcula (who will "Suck more than your blood") and a horny human bride. Bizarro highlights include a naked picnic, a “girl-on-gorilla” striptease, and a female “pleasure-robot.” The region-free DVD of Sexcula is taken from the only known theatrical print in existence (found in the basement of the Candian Film Archive!), and features liner notes by “Porn Archeologist” Dimitrios Otis and the original theatrical trailer. The DVD is slated for release on April 9th. Drop by Synapse Films for ordering info.

It isn't often we get to feature a Canadian b-movie from the 1970's here on the site, but thanks to Trembles, that's exactly what's on tap in this week's Motion Picture Purgatory. Feast your eyes on Sexcula, a 1974 slice of Canuxploitation from director John Holbrook.
The film stars Debbie Collins as Countess Sexcula and Jamie Orlando as Dr. Fallatingstein. John Alexander, Tim Lowery, Bud Coal, and Marie McLeod co-star. There's not much info available on the film so we'll let Canuxploitation.com give a brief overview: Shot in Vancouver by one-time producer Clarence Neufeld and a cast of unknown exhibitionists, the adult monster spoof Sexcula is not only an almost lost piece of undeniably sleazy Canadiana, it's also one of earliest monster movies made north of the border, a spoofy take-off on the Universal classic horror films.
