Horizons premiered at EPCOT center at Walt Disney World in 1983. The attraction took guests on a tour of the 21st century. Riders would first take a look back at the past and how they imagined the future would be. Then they would visit three different habitats of the future; in the desert, under the ocean, and in space.
Horizons showcases futuristic living in respect to the latest technologies we hold today. DNA mapping, growing abundant crops on desert land, building space stations, etc.
The icing on the cake is that toward the end of the show riders get to choose one of three different destinations for their futures. No other Omnimover-type ride had ever done that before.
Also the Horizons show incorporated a strategically-placed citrus aroma in the 'desert farm' scene. Many Horizons riders make fond reference to that aroma as it was such a nice touch made to the show.
