Shankar a mill worker lives happily with wife Geeta and son Deepak.An accident kills Geeta and damages Deepak's vocal chords.Shankar can't afford the cost of Deepak's surgery but is determined that someday Deepak will start talking.

Shankar a factory worker whose irritated with the sound around him in his daily life. A year back he lost his wife Geeta while trying to save their son Deepak from train accident where Deepak also lost his voice.Shankar's only dream in life is that Deepak should start speaking back and he is ready to do anything for it but at every moment life tests him. His two admires Khan and Rani stand by him as a big support in every difficulty.One day Doctor finally gives Shankar a ray of hope that Deepak will be able to speak back but he will have to do the surgery immediately as its already delayed and it will cost Rs 2000. Shankar (Manoj Kumar), his lovely wife Geeta (Nanda) and Deepak (Master Satyajeet) are a poor but happy family. Tragedy strikes one day, when Deepak wonders over to the railway tracks. When Geeta rushes in to warn and rescue him, she is run over by the train and is instantly killed. Deepak loses his vocal chords and cannot speak. Shankar takes Deepak to see a doctor (Raj Mehra), who examines Deepak, and tells Shankar that Deepak can recover his voice after a surgerical operation, which may cost around 1000 to 1500 rupees. Shankar is unable to afford this but is determined to find the money to cure his son. Shankar's mom (Kamini Kaushal), sister (Naaz), Khan Badshan (Prem Nath), Rani alias Raat ki Rani (Jaya Bhaduri) offer support.
