Resident Evil 0 is a great game to own and play. It shows how the events of the series started. It is an entertaining, frustrating and scary journey though a series of unusual environments.

Graphics - 9.5/10

Superb graphics give the game a real-life look. Every speck of detail can clearly be seen. The lighting effects are some of the best I have seen. However I still think the remake has the best graphics out of all of them.

Controls - 7.5/10

On first play the controls can take a little bit of time to get used to, especially the "zapping" system between the characters which can become a little bit annoying at times. However after a little bit of time you will soon get used to them.

Length - 8/10

This will take some tackling to complete upon first play as well as more after that.

Scare Factor - 9/10

The graphics, sounds and gameplay elements do the trick creating atmospheric environments. From spooky dim candlelit rooms to the moans and groans of zombies as well as other enemies. The camera angles also play a good part in the uneasiness in a way that sometimes you can't see what is ahead/around a corner meaning you are anxious to go ahead at times. Sometimes the camera will "follow" you around making it seem as though someone is watching you.

Difficulty - 9/10

Upon first play it will seem very hard. There are more enemies and sometimes ammo is scarce. They have also took away the item box so now you have to leave items that you don't want where your characters are standing. I liked this at first but it soon became a pain. The character zapping system at times is also difficult. Sometimes your characters will need to work together but can sometimes be miles apart from each other depending on whether you cooperate or go alone. Also if one character dies it is game over.

Sound/Music - 10/10

Great music and sound effects, sometimes quite terrifying.

Replay value - 7/10

Depending on how you complete the game a hidden extra will be at your disposal for you to go back and play.

Worst bit - those doors.

Overall 8.5/10

A very good game to add to your Resident Evil collection.

This is not the best resident evil game, but it is a entertaining one. The game is pretty tense and effective with what it does have. It is pretty good.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm writing two parts for this review, spoiler free and spoilers

This is a great game,Rebecca and Billy are great characters and I'd love for them to appear again, the game is medium length, some puzzles could use some more information but overall it's great The train is one of my favourite resident evil locations

Spoiler time Bois

All the bosses are interesting,I love the queen leach and proto tyrant, the achievements are great and the ending is one of the greatest endings that don't get effected by other things,I wish the game was longer,I hate the frog things but other than that all the enimes are great.

Better than the remake!!

Resident Evil 0 takes place BEFORE the mansion incident that occurred. You play as both Rebecca Chambers, and convict Billy Cohen. Billy is sentenced to death, and is being transported through a train. Meanwhile, Rebecca's helicopter crashes, and most of her team disappears. She gets on the train, only to find out that every passenger, and conductor has been transformed into flesh eating zombies. Rebecca and Billy have to team up in order to stay alive. Resident Evil 0 delivers a wide variety of game play. This latest installment to the series has new game play. Unlike the previous Resident Evil games, you can control two people, and switch between characters whenever you fell that it is necessary. The controls take some time to get used to, but still, Resident Evil 0 has better controls than the remake of Resident Evil 1. For example, it is easier to control your character, the button set-up is back the way it used to be, and it seems to be easier to play. Resident Evil 0 lacks the interactivity that the remake had, but to make up for that, it has gotten rid of all the jaggies that the remake had. Still, the graphics seem to be the best featured on a console so far. Each little detail in the environment is noticeable, which gives the game more of a disturbing tone. Resident Evil 0 is more scarier than the last one, because most of the monsters look more eerie. A new feature in Resident Evil 0, is the ability to drop items whenever you need to, this feature has taken the place of the old item boxes in the previous games. The game play is solid, and addicting, even though it seems to be the same old thing. This is one of those Resident Evil games where you just cant put down the controller. The difficulty level seems to have risen, now the puzzles seem to be harder, yet tedious. The sound effects have not bogged down in quality, character movements sound perfect. More enemies have been introduced into the game, such as mutant leeches, monkeys, scorpions, centipedes, and frogs. Overall, Resident Evil 0 proves to be the best Resident Evil game to date.

Graphics: 10 out of 10 Controls: 9 out of 10. Game play: 10 out of 10. Sound: 10 out of 10. Difficulty: 10 out of 10.

Best Feature: Great graphics, and entertaining cut-scenes. Worst Feature: The absence of item boxes makes the game harder.

Overall score: 10 out of 10.

Best game ever since i got divorced
jhndvd-023011 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Ever since my wife and kids left me, I decided to play this game to get my happiness back. And it did. Rebbeca reminded me about my wife. Billy reminds me of my ex. Dr. Marcus reminds me of my grandpa. This game made me so happy. All the laughs I used to have with my wife and kids. I felt depression coming when my wife and kids left me until I played this game. I recommend this a lot. Very funny, very addictive, very enjoyable and entertaining to play. I feel like this game is my entire life. Am I in a simulation..? Has my life been recorded..

Probably the worst of the main games
EasternZZ4 April 2020
This is the worst main Resident Evil game, mostly due to the fact that the gameplay was tiresome and old at this point. The characters are very slow, you aim the guns very slow, and this game has the worst boss in Resident Evil history, a giant flying bat that has smaller bats flying around it. The aiming is all messed up and it is almost impossible to hit this thing. You end up aiming at the other bats.

Anyways, the graphics are great and the story is cool but the gameplay is just old and way too clunky, even more clunky than REmake1. Anyways, just go read about this game on Wikipedia and go play REmake 2 & 3 instead, or play the Original remastered version.

Worst out of the original games.
MadMark968 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
RE0 is not a bad game by any means, its certainly better than later installments in the franchise but is easily the worst game out of the original classic camera games. The removal of the item box doesn't add a challenge, as it adds a tedious task. Certain areas of the game are very long and dragged out while this easily has some of the most uninspired enemy designs out of the entire series. In games like Resident Evil 2 and the gamecube remake of the original Resident Evil which are the best games in the series also feature some of the best enemies such as William Birkin a man who's only hope for survival is injecting himself with the virus of his own creation causing him to slowly mutate over the course of the game into more powerful forms Lisa Trevor an umbrella test subject who was experimented on over and over again causing a hideous mutation. Lisa dwells in the underbelly and woods of the mansion. Zero's boss battles? A giant scorpion, a tyrant (which we've already seen in a few other entries) some leach monsters and a giant bat. Leech hunter is probably one of the worst mini-games in the whole series but still provides a good challenge. The music is great and adds to the eerie and emptiness of the areas. The only area i wish was longer was the train but otherwise this game is defiantly at least worth a playthourgh especially if you love the older games.

Addictive and clever, easier too.
CuriosityKilledShawn8 December 2004
A re-review of the HD version on the PS3/PS4.

Is used to really like RE0. The train, the darkness, the quiet atmosphere...I liked it more than RE1. It was one of the first games I played on my GameCube way back in 2004 and I was excited to play through it again remastered in HD. Disappointment has overwhelmed me. First of all, the reformatted aspect ratio doesn't work too well. The game was not designed for 1.78:1 and it is so cramped that important details are often cropped out of the frame.

And the controls...don't get me started. They are a nightmare! This is a game that frequently relies on fast escapes or quick-witted agility, but with the constantly switching camera angles the coordination and orientation causes havoc with the controller. I wanted to grind the controller into dust in my hands.

Why is the game so slow? The RE format of collecting items to open new areas to collect new items to open new areas is just far too tedious in 2017. I know that the "door opening" clips are a staple of the early RE series, but they were really just made to cleverly disguise the new areas being loaded. There is no reason for them to still be present on the PS3 it slows down the tension and becomes very boring very quickly.

The story of the game itself is good enough. Set right before the events of the first game it details the events leading up to the incident at Spencer Mansion. You take control of Rebecca Chambers (who had a small role in RE1) and escaped convict Billy Coen, switching between them as you wish. The AI of the characters is so poor, however, that they will constantly be getting in your way. A zombie after you? Don't expect Rebecca to move just slightly to the left to let you escape!

Once you finish the main game you will unlock Wesker Mode and Leech Hunter, a mini-game where you run around the training facility collecting little charms. Win this and you'll unlock more weapons with infinity ammo. Sadly, the Platinum is far too difficult. There are 48 trophies and some of them require you to finish the WHOLE GAME without saving or using a healing item. Even on easy mode with the infinite ammo and powerful weapons you will find this nearly impossible.

Older games remastered in HD are usually quite good, but the concept of RE0 was tailored for lesser systems and it should have been given a bigger overhaul.

Major Disappointment
GB2K22 November 2002
Warning: Spoilers
As a HUGE fan of the Resident Evil games, primarily because of the great plot, I found 0 to be a huge disappointment, story-wise anyway. But first, let me say that the graphics are astonishing! I was drooling when the remake came out, and I was droolign even more when playing this one! They added a few new cool things never done before such as walking on top of a moving train shielding yourself from the blinding rain. That was impressive. But what's even more impressive is the teamplay-esque mode. I found it awesome that you can control two people at once and if they are in different rooms you switch back and forth between them. I have a feeling that 0 was really a practice for Resident Evil 2's remake, because it would make sense to be able to control both Leon and Claire, and the fact that they remade a lot of the scenes of RE2 in 0.

Now onto my beef of this game: Plot and Monsters. This game takes place as the Bravo team goes to investigate the mansion (before Alpha team goes in RE1) and their chopper crashes. So for some reason the team splits up and sends Rebecca onto a nearby train where she fights zombies and weird leeches and a partner, Billy. Ok enter the stupidity: Some guy who looks like a Boss of a Final Fantasy game shows up! (I think FF9), and he's liek the 'lord of the leeches'. But anyway here's *SPOILER ALERT* what happens: Ok First off Bill talks about how he had to kill a bunch of Africans, cool cinematic but had nothing to do with the game. The Lord of the Leeches ends up being some old scientist who had a training facility next to the Spencer Mansion, and he originally came up witht he T-Virus until Wesker and Birkin had him killed so they could take the T-virus to research on it, but a T-virus leech got inside the dead guy's system and made him.. THE LORD OF THE LEECHES! AHAHAH!

Dumb isn't it? So anyway they blow up his mansion and kill his mutated leech like body with (get this..) SUNLIGHT! Oh yeah you also fight an unstable Tyrant, even tho in 1, Rebecca's kinda intimidated by the Tyrant. I dunno.. the plot and monsters sucked.. I mean cmon a GIANT FROG? a GIANT CENTIPEDE? Hrmm...

So I have to say 0 is by far the weakest link.. Not one I'd be playing again..

Better than the first Resident Evil for Gamecube
duffja29 December 2002
This is the second RE game that I have played (the first one being the REmake), and I found this one to be better than it in every way, except story, where they are equal. One of the things that I like is that there are many more cut-scenes in this game and they look very well done, and do not stutter like the ones in the REmake. The in-game graphics are good to, and they add to the creepiness of the game, along with the eerie music and scary new monsters. I also found that the voice acting was better than the REmake's. It is much more fun to play since you control the two main characters, Rebecca and Billy, at once and I like the fact that you can drop items in this game, since I found the item boxes in the REmake very frustrating since I kept having to run back to them in order to dump all my useless items. Although the game is slightly shorter than the REmake, it is still more fun to play and it has a lot of replay value. I was a bit disappointed with the extras though, since the only good things that you can unlock that are cool are the new weapons. This game also has more weapons and monsters than the REmake, but not as many extras. Overall, it is better than the REmake, and a very good game, and I can't wait for Resident Evil 4.
