For a comedy, I didn't notice a single laugh!

"Rough Idea of Love" is a short starring Marjorie Beebe and is a Mack Sennett production. Now, considering how much I have enjoyed other Beebe-Sennett films, I was shocked by this one, as it was supposed to be a comedy but didn't have a single laugh in the film. In fact, I wonder why they made it in the first place!

Beebe plays a lounge singer who is inexplicably in love with a real jerk. Through much of the film, he treats her abominably...even punching her several times. By the end, they marry...though you really wonder why.

So what's funny about a singer in love with a jerk? I saw nothing fun or funny here...and advise you to try another Beebe film instead.

They Deserve Each Other, The Heels

Marjorie Beebe is a saloon singer, and Frank Eastman is the piano player and her boyfriend. He's got a roving eye, and she's making a play for the boss, who is crazy about her. So they slang each other, and beat on each other, and are very happy in their abusive relationship, which saloon owner Frank Sabini tries to break up, with machine-gun fire if necessary.

Miss Beebe gets to do more than her usual decorative performance here, talking out of the side of her mouth, kicking competing chorines in the rear, and so forth. It's a happy little movie.
