Subtle, it ain't!

This is a film sponsored by The National Film Board of Canada. This governmental organization has sponsored many Oscar-nominated films over the years but they also have sponsored some amazingly preachy films--three of which I watched tonight. I have just seen one about the evils of smoking, one about the misuse of fire and this one about wasting energy. It's obvious Big Brother cares about us and wants to look out for our best interests! THE ENERGY CAROL is a take off on the classic Dickens story, "A Christmas Carol". However, in this case, Scrooge is a nice guy who loves to waste energy. He wastes it so much that the ghost of energy come and preach incessantly about a need to conserve energy. While this was made in the midst of the Energy Crisis of the 1970s and it did make a good point, it also comes off as amazingly preachy and not particularly fun--though I did like the cute ending.
