Repas en famille (1896)
This film from the Lumiere company shows a family of Japanese people sitting around. Yes, that's pretty much all you see here but this film wasn't all that uncommon. If you go through the Lumiere films then you'll notice that these types of films were done to show Indians as well as black people and other groups. In all honesty, movies like this is probably the first time many viewers ever got to see someone that didn't look like them so I'm sure these served a purpose back in the day and I'm sure companies made a good amount of money showing off "new" things to people who were paying to watch the movies.
