This travelogue of Japan centers on the blossoming of ornamental Japanese cherry trees, one of the most iconic symbols of the Japanese culture. In that culture, the blossoms signify life. The blossom period for any given tree is two weeks in the spring, and thus the Japanese treat this period almost like a holiday. The blossoms eventually falling off the trees is like a snowfall of pink, which covers the ground beneath. The blossoms have also inspired a dance performed by geishas. There are also many ceremonies celebrating the cherry blossoms tied to the various religions of Japan, those religions which coexist side-by-side in harmony. In that vein, one religious shrine visited is the Great Buddha of Kamakura.
