Surf at Monterey (1897)
The title is exactly what you get in this twenty second movie. Basically the camera is set up on the shore as we see some waves crash over some large rocks. Yeah, there's obviously not too much to be seen here but I'm sure this type of movie would have appealed to someone in the middle of the country who perhaps had never seen a wave before. I'm sure a lot of people like that were willing to pay five cents to see it. There's certainly nothing awful here but at the same time there's nothing overly special either. There's nothing ground-breaking here but fans of early cinema will still want to check it out.
