The Windows 95 version that you're talking about that features high resolution graphics for Character portrait boxes and icon and items, and has the game crashing in voice mode falling credits on black screen, sadly will no longer work. Also this version is no longer available even for a gog.com buying a legal download which only features low resolution.

You must get the skeleton key in order to unlock the chest from the viziers room.
To get the skeleton key, you must play the xylophone bones in order to get the skeletons to dance and the guard to lose his skeleton key from his key ring. After the song is over you can then pick up the skeleton key and move on.

First of all when you visit Isle of the Mists, do not go the campfire gathering, otherwise you'll be caught and be burned to death. Also get the scythe and a lump of coal. You'll be coming back if you decide to take the long path.
Before you visit the Isle of the Mists a second time, you need to cast a rain making spell. To do this first get the old magic lamp, do not trade it with the lamp peddler just yet. Then you need to get the babies tears in the lamp, put a vile of sacred water in the lamp and then collect a fountain of water at the Beast's castle.
Then you need to cast the Make rain spell and the lamp will activate. You can now return to the Isle of the Mists to be caught by the druids and put in the cage over the bonfire. Alexander will use beauties clothes to put out the fire but will be burned up. The lamp will cast a rain spell and you can continue on with the game.

After your lamp puts out the fire, Alexander will have a long talk with the Archdruid. Afterwards, get the glowing fire emblems into the skull, then put the spoiled egg, and a long piece of hair.
Quickly teleport over to the Isle of the Sacred Mountain and climb to the top to meet Nightmare the winged horse eating at a bush.
Cast the Night spell on the winged horse and you'll be able to ride the flying horse to the land of the dead.
If your fire emblem in the human skull goes out or you scare the horse away you won't be able to win the game and you will have to start over.

Watch out for pits which will kill Alexander, also when you enter a trap room with the ceiling coming down, do not throw the human skull into the gears or else the ceiling will crush Alexander to death. Instead throw the brick into the gears, it will stop the moving ceiling and the doors will open.
One of the pits Alexander goes in won't kill him but he will be left in the dark, quickly use the tinderbox to light the torch or the Minotaur will kill Alexander.
Also use the hole in the wall in a certain dead end room to reveal the Minotaur using a tapestry to open a secret door.

For the stone archer, do not attempt to walk through the gate or the archer will kill Alexander with his arrow. Instead while you're in the catacombs, get the shield on the wall and finish the catacombs. Use the shield and the arrow will be blocked and you can continue on.
For the white rose hedges, the vines will just block your path. Instead go to the Isle of mist and get the scythe and use it on the hedges and you will finally enter the beasts castle garden.

You can take the short path by bringing a mechanical Nightingale, a peppermint, and putting on beauties clothes to sneak into the castles main hall.
Or you can take the long path by getting everything including the paintbrush and the correct lamp duplicate you need in the game and eventually you'll end up in the castle basement.
There are many endings depending on what you choose. The short path will get you an ending not so great as Cassimas parents are dead, Alexanders family won't be at the wedding and you killed the Genie with a peppermint.
The long path has many endings depending on whether you choose to capture the genie with his real lamp or kill him with a peppermint. Give Cassima Alexander's ring, or befriend Jollo, or discover the Isle's stolen treasures. Cassimas parents will be brought back to life.
