Simple story but interesting animation and style
With the world exploding all around him and gunfire ringing in his ears, a soldier lies bleeding from a critical wound. In his hand is a picture of his mother. As he slips away, he sees all of life in front of him, slipping into oceans and through forests as he heads back to his home and the breaking hearts of his family.
My couple of sentence plot summary is not as brief as you might think in fact it is pretty much the entire film. Although the story is simple, it is still quite engaging and the convincing facial expressions of the couple of women help it deliver a small but effective amount of emotion. The animation section flows through a war zone, across nature and eventually back to Columbia and the man's home. The animation style suits the material because it is rather like the fast, spirit motion required. I'm not sure how Lopez did it but it had a couple of different approaches mixed into it. At times it looked a bit messy but it still worked and was mostly done well, merging places and styles to good effect and making it interesting to watch.
Not a huge amount to it then, but the simple story is well delivered at the end by a couple of good mini-performances that do bring home (sorry!) what is really happening. The animation didn't always work for me but generally it looked good and suited the type of story it was. Certainly good enough to justify a five-minute look.
