Its just crazy corny fun; what a cartoon is supposed to be
ChuckBlues8 August 2002
Bonkers is just old fashion silliness. It pokes fun at cartoons and old detective movies and movie industry decision making all in the style of Abott and Costello with corny jokes and puns. It makes fun of Disney cartoons in particular and has pulled in "cameos" by such classics as Ludwig Von Drake, Donald Duck, the Mad Hatter and has one entire episode about kidnapping the greatest toon mouse of all. The puns are never ending with characters names such as Lucky's wife, Dyl Piquel, or Bonkers' second partner, Miranda Wright. The toon slapstick is also nonstop such as the time they catch a toon impostor with "the banana test" because no true toon can resist slipping on a banana. This show is NOT educational any more than Marx Brothers; it is just plain corny humor which is IMHO what a cartoon is supposed to be.

Is super fun

Warning: Spoilers
I really love this show, is worth waching 👍

Is funny and the characters are likeable, i'm a big fan of bonkers so i recommend it.

The only things that i need to criticise is the continuity of the episodes, there are episodes with Lucky and another season is another police (i don't remember her name), the police girl ones were the first episodes from the cartoon, i didn't watch season 2 yet but i see people who get confused while watching s2.

Disney needs to do a reboot for correct this problem, but the cartoon is very enjoyable.

It was hard find bonkers but now is very easy to watch, is in disney+ now.

Not worth your time even for Disney Afternoon classics and the nostalgia.

Warning: Spoilers
The only reason I didn't give it a 1 out of 10 is because the theme song is the only thing I can stand from this show. I find this show to be very annoying especially the main character Bonkers himself. The other toon characters are annoying too, but not as much because they aren't shown a lot, or at least not the same ones are shown. Also Toots is a character that makes gas noises. You know pfft, funny right? Most of the jokes are so bland and unoriginal even for that time. For a 1990's show, you would think it would be at least a little funny for it's time. However, I don't think anyone will say it's one of the best shows of our childhood. The fact they have "special characters" appear like Mickey Mouse without evening showing his actual face in the show, but hear a terrible impression of his voice, that's so lowbudget right there.

Wacky!!!!!
sethn1723 September 2006
This is good stuff.

In 1993, Disney released its next series in the Disney Afternoon lineup, "Bonkers." It's a show about some crazy cat who worked at a police station in Hollywood, and many "Roger Rabbit" things go on here!

I didn't see very many episodes of this, and I didn't care much about this show as well as 1994's "Gargoyles," although there were some episodes that I liked and stuck in my head as well: one was about the weather, and something funny happened with an elevator (?), and one was about a train. Sorry, it's been a while!!!!!

Before I leave, one criticism: I mean, why ban this "Golden Age" show when later garbage like KIM POSSIBLE and THAT'S SO RAVEN should be banned, huh????? (LOL) Must be a "Ren and Stimpy" Xerox, huh?????

Anyways, "Bonkers" is a pretty good show. Not "DuckTales" exciting, but still good!!!!!

Bonkers is hilarious!
changsmith27 September 2000
This show is really wacky. That's mostly why it's funny. Bonkers, a bobcat teams up with Lucky, a police officer and some other friends to save the day-although the episode usually has a lot off the subject, which makes it survive for twenty-five minutes. There are some pretty funny characters, including talking stationary and all sorts of animals. I love this show!

My Childhood in one show
vegeta398629 October 2008
There are only two cartoon series that meant the world to me in my childhood and this was one of them. I love this series so much. the writing was always ingenious, the characters were lovable, and it always left you with a good feeling and made you smile. But what sets this show apart from other also very good shows? its charm. its self aware charm. almost as if it knew it was a TV show and played to the audience. The idea of this show was already tried with Roger rabbit, but Bonkers pulled it off much better with a hilarious personality and lovability. the episodes where he's paired with piquel are hysterical and (IMO) better than the later ones with Miranda. they just had a sort of chemistry that was brilliant. if i had to nitpick, the only thing i DIDN'T like about this show was fall apart rabbit and the theme song. but other than that, this show is amazing, even to this day. It's incrediby sad that this series is not on DVD yet and i will be sure to buy it the moment it does. The cartoons of today need to take lessons from these amazing shows and go back to hand drawings. This show embodies my childhood and has near perfection status, with 10 wacky toons, out of 10.

Just As Great As Roger Rabbit, So Much So It Lives Up To It.
Dawalk-110 May 2011
First of all, I remember seeing this show as part of the Disney Afternoon block and found every minute of every episode enjoyable. I also didn't know at the time I was watching it that this was originally intended to be a spin-off series starring Roger Rabbit. But the initial plan never came to be due to the copyright problems between Disney and Amblin, so Bonkers (who is a bobcat by the way, to the first reviewer who asked what he is supposed to be) was brought over from his own segments on Raw Toonage and was used to replace Roger and be the star instead. At the beginning of this series, Bonkers becomes unemployed due to his old show being dropped from first place in the ratings. But then, after an unanticipated turn of events, Bonkers finds himself inadvertently entangled in a case and is later asked to join the police force, which he agrees to do so.

This Disney 'toon has a definite Tex Avery/Bob Clamplett vibe to it and I think that must be the main reason why it's connected with a majority of viewers. Those who are familiar with the classic animated featurettes directed by them will find Bonkers reminiscent of their styles. This Disney 'toon is probably the one at its wackiest as well that's in the spirit of Looney Tunes and the like. Another thing I like about this show as among my favorite aspects (and why I'd recommend it to those who haven't already seen it) is the cameos made by various, established Disney characters like Donald Duck, Goofy Goof, Mickey Mouse, Mad Hatter, March Hare, the dormouse and many others I may have forgotten like Dumbo. I love it when a Disney project involves character cameos and/or walk-ons. Not only does Bonkers appear here additionally, but his co-stars Fawn Deer, Jitters A. Dog, Grumbles Grizzly, Roderick Lizzard and Tuttle Turtle do too. Although this show is supposed to be modeled after Roger Rabbit, it's technically, fully animated, rather than an actual mixture of animation and live-action. But Bonkers' first human partner, Lucky Piquel, is meant to be the more normal one, as are the other human characters, like his wife, Dyl, and daughter, Marilyn. Lucky also tries his best not to get as nutty as Bonkers is all while trying to do his duty. The series is split into two eras, with many episodes featuring Lucky and others featuring Bonkers' new partner, Miranda Wright (who he meets after Lucky and his family move to D.C., having obtained a promotion). Whoever Bonkers is partnered with, they go on cases that usually involved missing 'toons and' toon villains who are often behind the kidnappings. Albeit sometimes the general storyline detracted from those.

Despite what one nay-sayer or two on here wrote, I say this show should not be missed for at least the cameos it has and to best describe it and sum this up in my own words: It's just such a thrill of a joyride that will keep you at the edge of your seat as the hilarity ensues. And anyone not feeling this show in one way or another must lack a funny bone maybe.

A great show that is alway funny
wdwexplore1 February 2001
First, I must say that the Disney Afternoon was the greatest lineup of television shows ever. Originally, when it consisted of Gummi Bears, Ducktales, Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers, and Talespin, it was perfect, but alas, new shows were created and old ones were removed. Other greats that followed were Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Bonkers, Aladdin, and Gargoyles. (Notice I did not mention Timon and Pumbaa, Schnookums & Meat, and Marsupilami because I think they were horrible, which is also why they didn't last as long as the other shows) Anyway, when I have time I'll put my individual comments about each of those shows. This one is for Bonkers.

Bonkers is a bobcat. He started as a famous Hollywood actor in the beginning of the show. The premise is sort of like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, where humans and toons live together, especially in Hollywood. Bonkers' show gets cancelled and through a series of mixups with a policeman named Lucky Picquelle (hope I spelled that right), NOT PICKLE!, they became partners in a new division of the police squad called toon division.

Anyway, that is the plot, but that doesn't explain how hilarious this show is. First, I must say that Jim Cummings, the voice of Bonkers, and a billion other cartoon characters, especially for Disney, is one of the greatest voice artists, on par with Charles Fleischer and Mel Blanc (who provided voices for all of the Warner Brothers cartoon characters). Lucky is an overweight cop who does things by the book and likes silence and order in his life. However, Bonkers, being a cartoon character, and one who literally is "bonkers", makes his life and the entire show turn upside down and insane. Bonkers goes on rants where he's speaking at 100000 miles per second, without catching his breath, constantly moving all over the place, while Lucky is trying to calm himself down before he gets a heart attack. It's hard for me to explain how hilarious and great this show was/is, but you must see it for yourself. It's on Toon Disney every day and night, make sure you watch it with all of the other Toon Disney/old Disney Afternoon shows. See you at my next comment on the other shows.

One of my favorites
luvrockaaf5 February 2003
I used to watch this show all the time. It's one of my all time favorites. Yeah, it's a kid's show. The cartoons are a little corny but that's just like kids... their jokes are corny. Bonkers is an adorable character but Fall-Apart is the better one. He is like Eyeor from Winnie the Pooh because he always had bad things happen. His legs, nose, ears fall off and he gets them put back on in the wrong positions. His partners changed and it still stayed cute. It's not a classic and it's not for serious people but it is great for an innocent laugh.

Fun Kids Cartoon
brice-945-41002710 July 2018
I kind of miss this show. It was the kind of cartoon people of any age can maybe not love but at least enjoy, which is much better than most kids cartoons today (which seem to all be so scream filled and annoying). Bonkers was pretty funny.

Not Bad!
Lho33233704 August 2001
My sister watches Playhouse Disney and the jokes they say come from Toon Disney. This is Toon Disney property. Bonkers is an officer who works for detective Lucky Piquel. Bonkers tells Merlin about how people do things. Bonkers did start out as an actor but his show was canceled and he became an officer. Lucky and his crazy wife Dyl don't get along very well.
