Top Quality Mexican Drama
adolfo-2210 October 2006
The plot and the story are hard for me to follow thoroughly since the last time I saw this movie was about 20 years ago, but I do have memories of great moments along the scenes.

A well thought drama and performed nicely by the young but talented cast.

You will have to adapt to the lack of audio and video quality of modern times, but it is easily compensated by the quality of the story.

You can say it's a family movie but there are things and situations better understood by young adults and older.

As a quick summary, the story is developed on a rural community and the main character is the rural school teacher who is about to lose his job and his sight due to a degenerative visual illness. The students don't miss a chance to play nasty jokes on his more then patient teacher... things change when a new boy attends to class, and there is where the roller coaster ride begins.

Enjoy!

Warning: Spoilers
Don Cipriano is a patient grandfather type teacher (Maestro) who is losing his sight. He teaches out in rural Mexico and has taught for 40 years. His students have grown up to be responsible citizens. He has a lot of respect and love from the adults in the community. In the current year he has a group of unruly boys. These boys create a student "Simitrio" the first day of school from a boy that never attended because his family moved away. They plot to cause mischief to the teacher who is going blind and blame it on the so called student "Simitrio". They cause all kind of mischief for the teacher but he is patient and insists on reforming "Simitrio" never using physical violence. A government inspector comes and decides Maestro Don Cipriano must retire due to the discipline problems. The students begin to have a change of heart and tell the teacher "Simitrio" has died. The teacher is crushed because he believes he failed "Simitrio".In the meantime the community rallies around the aged teacher and let him know he is like a father to the community whom he has taught. Very touching movie!!
