The original title for this movie was "The Puppet." The title was later changed to appease a VHS distributor who agreed to release the film, but only if the original title was dropped and replaced with "Black Devil Doll from Hell." The VHS distributor also allegedly came up with the idea for the opening theme song, as a way to pad out the film's run time.
The doll's head fell off during the filming of the sex scene.
Almost everyone who worked on this film got paid by Chester Novell Turner. However, Turner himself wasn't paid anything for making this movie.
The titular doll was purchased at a hobby shop in Chicago, Illinois. In some scenes, the doll was played by the director's nephew in the scenes in which it walks.
