Television doesn't get much worse...
katietaitee6 February 2007
A current affair is one of those shows with anything but 'current affairs' Unless of course you care about that person that got ripped off by their insurance company because they didn't read the small print or you're actually interested in the stories that a current affair uses to make sure you watch their channels and not the other channels shows. If you were to combine the entire crew of A Current Affair's common sense and logic, you would have less common sense than what your average garden gnome does. Information about the war? Politics? Crime? Well there is crime on the show, but only if its your unruly neighbourhood teenagers causing all the trouble. Murder? Rape? No way! Not on a current affair.

Oh and I so loved the story about the latest sunglasses in style. That story certainly was a 'current affair'

Oh dear....

"ACA" is one of Australia's great comedies.

Where else can you tune in and get a daily dose of dodgy fridge repairmen, housos destroying housing commission property, white trash spewing vile hatred at each other, ads for the latest fad diet, celebrity suck-up pieces (usually when the celebrity is promoting their new album / film / perfume / whatever) and Brady Halls chasing yet another clueless crim (who are so stupid / broke they can't even get their faces pixelated) down the street while asking questions over-dubbed in the edit suite.

Tracy Grimshaw gets a special mention for reading this s h i t off the auto-cue while looking genuinely concerned and without out cracking up in laughter.

They have picked at the marginalized in our society and when SBS produced the excellent "Struggle Street" doco, they couldn't believe it wouldn't be an ACA hatchet job (which it wasn't). Yes, they have picked at the scab of racism and every other "ism" for that matter; and yes, some people believe them in a literal sense (?) If you have time, switch over to ACA to see what the housos are up to and who Brady Halls is chasing down the street tonight... I guess it's a bit like a traffic accident.. you know you shouldn't look but you can't turn away...

TABLOID JOURNALISM
Tak0053 January 2018
A 30 minute Australian current affairs show that when it started was a platform for serious journalism. However, through the years and currently as of 2018, it is a tabloid journal filled with populist tripe.

What is exactly the purpose of this show? and what in the world is any intelligent person meant to take away from it?

Warning: Spoilers
This is even more rubbish on Australian television. This is not really news, Just like today and tonight, almost every episode of this show seems to center on revolting, nasty white trash with no redeeming qualities or intelligence. On this show, each night you get to see them beat each other up, swear at each other, see reporters harass and stalk people and see hoons burn out their tyres. The show doesn't ever seem to deliver any real insight into whatever topic it reports on, and besides nearly never reporting on subjects that actually affect people's lives it seems to relish in exploiting legions of beer swilling, racist, drunken morons and their ridiculous affairs. The show is almost jerry springer without crowds of people laughing in the background. Oh wait, this show IS jerry springer without the background audiences clapping or cheering on. This show manages to just show off the worst of Australian society while being as subtle as a jackhammer, and being as tasteless and sensationalistic as journalism can get. For example, the one common story that appears usually every month in this show are neighborhood wars, where we get to witness an endless onslaught of profanity, stupidity and violence. What is anyone supposed to take away form this? This show is not only tasteless and irrelevant, but its boring. Its simply too shallow and narrow minded to be interesting or entertaining. A current affair is just simply a trash reality television show pretending to be journalistic or important.

Disappointed and worried about my safety after today's show
jocelyn_101930 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Today's show is again revealed something concerning - small Chinese businesses in Australia are buying face masks, hand sanitisers, longlife milk, baby formula to sell to China, during coronavirus crisis. What really disappointed me was that the programme was unable to dig out what the reasons behind the shortage in local supermarkets, e.g. Gov policies, negotiation and incapability of supermarkets predicting demand. Rather it pointed finger to these Chinese businesses and "daigo" people who buy from supermarket and send to China. As a Chinese working professional in Australia, I just received a fackmask parcel from Dad, and I am now scared to go to supermarket to buy anything. I do not want to be the next racist victim, as we have seen the Chinese students who were attacked recently simple because of the virus.

ACA 18 April
jdmelang18 April 2022
How uncaring of ACA to follow up the report on the Australia volunteers in Ukraine putting their lives at risk in the war torn country, with sobbing cruise passengers emotional because they have missed cruising during the last 2 years. Get real about the matters that really matter in this world.

The Big Con That ACA Is
CareyCarter1 November 2022
Ironically a show that has storyline's about helping people more like exploiting them for ratings and stories, actually leaving them worse off #carcon these leeches along with #carsales promised to fix my car instead left us a dangerous undrivable car and in total $11,700 out of pocket. No response from ACA, Reid Blue Eyes Bulter. Yet the very producer was horrified by the treatment and conduct of CarSales and ACA considering I was on a walking stick and young son! You are a disgrace to journalism if you could call yourselves that. You did more damage than the PoS car dealer #topdealmotors and his fraudulent RWC violent mechanic!

Hope you're proud of yourself because I was forced to sell that car $275 for scrap after being conned by ACA and CarSales head management!!!

Gutter journalism at its worst
grantss7 May 2023
An Australian current affair program.

The quality of news and current affairs programs is typically quite poor, relying on fear mongering and general misinformation and disinformation plus the stupidity of the general public to get and maintain viewership.

A Current Affair makes all those shows look positively honest and award-winning, taking fear-mongering and bs to absurd heights/depths. Between uninformed, populist attacks on businesses, going after tradies, shoving microphones and cameras in the faces of neighbours they want to shame, there is nothing they won't stoop to.

Sadder still is that there's people out there who believe their crap.

Dull and boring show saved by John Clarke and Bryan Dawe
Ted_E_Bare19 January 2002
A Current Affair was a typical clone of all of the Current affairs shows in Australia. Stories were frequently the same with a few different details. This nightly current affairs show was made of dodgy businessmen, miracule drugs, battlers who are being picked on by the authorities and anything that gives them a chance to show some gratuitious nudity or senseless violence. The only thing worth tuning in for was the weekly segments made by John Clarke and Bryan Dawe. Highly satrical mock interviews, characteristic of John Clarke's style make ACA worth watching (or atleast tuning in for the last 5 minutes).

Drivel at best, harmful at worst.
wayfargone17 May 2022
Will we ever know the trauma, mental health damage, financial ruin and possibly even suicides of people bullied and dragged through the mud by shows like these?

They only tell one side of a story, most times. They seem to have a set formula for tge year. The bad neighbour, rip-off trading, bad tenant, bad landlord (less often than bad tenant), fighting within a family, crime-ridden poor neighbourhood, lazy unemployed plus, plus any other one-suded anxiety/ outrage inducing story about poor people or poor people being ripped of by other poor people.

The people who watch this merde are just as bad, in my opinion.

Great comedy show. My favourite episodes are the ones when they expose all them dodgy builders that rip off pensioners and stuff. They also have a regular segment where they talk about a great new miracle diet closely followed by a segment about eating disorders. They have a great long running gag where they expose welfare cheats as well as a light hearted rags to riches story every so often. I also really like the bits where they pretend to do a slightly controversial story about a tv show or something about a tv show which also happens to appear on channel 9. Not quite as funny as frontline or the bolt report but better than Alan Jones.

The most appalling and disgusting faux 'News Affairs' program ever.
jhkmrkeanes-943169 April 2024
Dumb and Dumber was not just a movie. I remember a notorious 'investigator' ? What a bully that man was. If I could name him without risk I would. Then I recall a Media Watch episode where they had discovered that ACA had broadcast more stories about women's bras than any other topic, including the old standards such as dodgy builders, dole bludgers and fighting neighbours, in an entire year. But some good came from this utter garbage and that was the sublime and all so accurate Frontline - now there was an awesome show created by talented and intelligent people. IMB has ACA's approval rating of 2.1 out of ten. So, there is hope for mankind although one wonders who were watching to get a score at all. But two people left 10/10 as a joke. Please don't do this as then the true score 1/10 would be attributed to this shameful garbage of a program and often a harmful one as well. How people can associate themselves with such vile content is beyond comprehension. This show should have been dead and buried decades ago. Those who have worked on this production since the days after Jana Wendt left should hold their heads in shame. They have no regard for decency at all. Zilch!

What a sad situation this dire rubbish is still on air - yes, a current tragic affair.

The most appalling and disgusting faux 'News Affairs' program ever.
