This was Brazil's first animated feature film.
The legends told in the movie are: the origin of the night, the origin of the Amazon River, the creation of fire, the tale of the Caipora, the tale of the tortoise and the jaguar, the tale of the Iara and the legend of the rainbow. These stories are adaptations of Native Brazilian legends, most from the Tupi-Guarani nation.
Anelio Latini animated alone the entirety of the film. He took five years to create about 500.000 drawings.
