Long on the drama and short on the action, intentional or not?

This movie is from Hong Kong on 01/05/1978 with Kong Hon, Leung San, Yang Hon, Newton Lai Hon-Chi, Cheung Ping, and Weng Wu. Our girl returns home to find her mother killed. Indeed almost the whole village has been slaughtered so it can only be the evil Japanese. Cut to two boys talking in a field. Next the elders discuss the situation. It is mostly talk and little action for the next hour.

The farmers are training in martial arts and setting traps and a few more innocents must die before it gets rolling. This middle section has the feel of "The Seven Samurai" but without the seven samurai.

The obviously indoor sets used for outside locations look familiar and I suspect they were leased from Shaw Brothers studios. In addition to the evil Japanese there is also a traitor among them. This makes me wonder if this is a drama with not so great acting and a bit of kung fu tossed in or a kung fu movie with not so good kung fu and drama tossed in. Either way it is certainly one for the fast forward button. The final fight was about ten minutes and nothing special.

Overall I did not care for it and doubt I would watch it again.
