"Grieco Suave"
tarbosh2200024 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Rick Hansen (Grieco) is a Hollywood talent agent lookin' for love in all the wrong places - namely, the Play Pen, his local strip club. When he goes there to visit his buddy Frankie (The Diceman), the club's owner, Rick is served by a waitress named Stephanie (O'Dell). Instantly enraptured by her, he essentially stalks her until she agrees to do a screen test for him. Unfortunately for the lovesick Rick, Stephanie is in an abusive relationship with a murderous biker named Blackie (Enos III), who has a mean jealous streak. He and his violent gang, the Satan's Slaves - which includes Spider (Galligan) - have stolen some money and drugs, and their rivals, who include Ringman (Ice-T) and Slim (Sebastian Bach) want them bach. Sorry, back. As if all that wasn't enough, Stephanie also lives with, and cares for, her epileptic sister Jessica (Everhart). Does Rick Hansen know the maelstrom of trouble he's just walked into? Will things finally all come to a head at...POINT DOOM?

According to Wikipedia, "Point Dume is a promontory on the coast of Malibu, California that juts out into the Pacific Ocean. The point, a long bluff, forms the northern end of Santa Monica bay." The mysterious elves that write Wikipedia entries might be more right than they realize, as Point Doom is indeed a long bluff, at an overlong 99 minutes - and we're not sure what the point actually was. Once again, we've been snookered by what we call the Lone Tiger Effect - when you want to see a movie because of its great cast, but the movie itself is not so hot. It was directed by our old buddy Art Camacho (we don't actually know him, but we feel as if we do because we've seen his name in the credits so many times), and, yes, it is a low-budget DTV movie from 2000. Our expectations should have been lower because of the latter fact. But let's break this down:

  • Zach Galligan - as a member of the Galligang, he plays a heavy and seems to be running from his past as a Gremlin wrangler.

  • John Enos III plays almost the same role as he did in Missionary Man (2007), as the memorably-named Jarfe.

  • Angie Everhart, like Galligan, stretches in an unglamorous role as a woman with medical problems who mainly wears sweatpants.

  • Sebastian Bach was a welcome and unusual presence and deserved more screen time. He must have been a "slave to the grind" of this particular production. Hmm.

  • Ice-T had some funny and ridiculous dialogue, which of course was delivered in that inimitable Ice-Tean way.

  • Richard Grieco is "Grieco Suave" as he plays the romantic lead - though in the "talent agent vs. biker" fight...well, we'll let you guess who wins.

  • Jennifer O'Dell - we don't have much to say, other than that she wears some pretty outstanding outfits.

  • Andrew "Dice" Clay steals the movie with his charisma, and is, funnily enough, the voice of reason amongst all the crazy goings-on. His thick Brooklyn accent is unmistakable.

The movie suffers from bad pacing - it starts off with a bang, but it didn't know to quit while it was ahead, and some editing problems hamper things as well. Though on the bright side, there is a PM-style car flip/blow-up, and Enos rides his motorcycle in slo-mo away from the flames. Of course, there's the time-honored barfight, but this one features a White Zombie song during the brain cell-depleting stupidity. Besides some of our favorite B-Movie names in unorthodox roles, Point Doom is also noteworthy in that it features some original songs by the original artists - Motley Crue, Motorhead, and the very catchy 80's classic "White Horse" by Laid Back. But despite the cast and soundtrack, Point Doom is junky, too long, and needed a lot more pep in certain places.

Much like Cape Fear, you'd have to be pretty brave to venture a trip to Point Doom. But if you've wanted to see Sebastian Bach shoot and punch people, this is the movie for you.

so-so
vamp8828 February 2004
I'll make this short. Andrew "dice" Clay was fun to watch, and Angie Everhart is always a welcome addition. Also seeing Sebastian Bach was a cool surprise in a relatively small role. Some of the other actors did better then expected for a movie of this type as well. The movie as a whole however was not very good. A so-so script which may have been better if the budget and production value were much higher. I presume all the budget went to the actors as there were a number of known names and faces if no A-list stars. I could recommend renting this movie is if some of the actors are personal favorites. That's why I did, but if your looking for a good, fun, action movie there are many better to choose from.

I rate it 5 out of 10 based on the appeal of some of the actors. Otherwise I would've felt like I wasted my time.

A movie with many problems .... but still watchable..................
merklekranz2 December 2009
Others have pointed out how unpolished the script is for "Point Doom". Funniest of all is a black Pontiac that morphs into a black Chevy mid chase. Maybe they didn't want the Trans Am to suffer, along with the audience, through the stereotyped fireball crash? If we didn't get the stereotyped hangout strip joint, we wouldn't get Andrew Dice Clay running it, and since "Dice" is definitely the best part of the film, let's forgive that one. The actresses being easy on the eyes, is the only other plus. The conclusion that never seems to end is definitely a weak point, along with the cap pistol sounding guns that never run out of ammo. Only if you like Andrew Dice Clay, is this is worth seeing. - MERK

These bikers had really, really white teeth...
Before I say too much about "Point Doom," somebody, please, get Angie Everhart a good script. She has too much on-screen presence to be wasted in thankless roles like this.

"Point Doom" had the potential to be 90 minutes of straight-to-video fun. Hey, it WAS fun for a while, particularly the minor fender-bender which the stunt coordinator turned into an enormous car-flipping fiery explosion. And the talent agent who never gets any phone calls, but who owns a $100,000 car and a $2 million beach house. And the bikers with perfect, straight white teeth. Really white teeth. Then again, maybe the bikers weren't all that authentic, since there was very little biking going on in the movie. Do you know any bikers who keep a late-model, American-made sedan as a backup, just in case they have to take a hostage?

There's not a lot to say about this movie, so please forgive me for not taking this review too seriously. The plot is, a high-powered (allegedly) Hollywood talent agent falls for a strip club waitress whose boyfriend is a homicidal drug-dealing biker. You can guess the rest.

I should mention that the talent agent, played by Richard Grieco, has the most obnoxious haircut seen on a male actor since...hmmm, this is tough. Does Donald Trump count? Also, Andrew "Dice" Clay is in "Point Doom," playing the character you'd expect him to play: a strip club owner. Fans of Mr. Clay should stop the movie before it finishes, if they want to avoid an embarrassing scene in which Mr. Clay's character meekly climbs into the back seat of Mr. Grieco's car. How the mighty have fallen...

But back to Ms. Everhart. She's not given much to work with here, but she tries hard with it nonetheless. What would I give to see her in a leading role in a major-studio film? If George Lucas is reading this and has parts available in future "Star Wars" films, let me recommend someone...George? Are you there?

doomed
ksmacy-23 October 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Starring Richard Grieco, fresh from an eyebrow waxing, Andrew Dice Clay, and Angie Everhart, POINT DOOM seemed like a winner. Anyone who hasn't seen at least a frame of Everhart and Grieco's last coupling (they've made 3 films together), LAST CRY aka DANGEROUS DESIRES aka SEXUAL PREDATOR, apparently has a bedtime of seven o'clock. I've seen frames of it in at least four different cities (under each title). After the first credit sequence, we get a phenomenal scene between drug-dealers Zach Galligan, who can actually act, and Ice T, who can't, but who I love anyway for being in BREAKIN' 2 and John Wayne Bobbit's FRANKENPENIS (ohmigod!). Then we get ANOTHER credit sequence before meeting nice guy talent agent Richard Grieco and strip club owner Andrew Dice Clay (reprising his role from PRETTY IN PINK). Grieco whines that he doesn't want to be forty and hanging out in strip clubs, at which point I snicker, and Angie Everhart strips on stage. Now I'm confused, because Grieco looks right past Angie and starts coming onto his blonde waitress with a bad crimping job. You call yourself a talent agent? Angie Everhart is right behind you! Then we get a THIRD credit sequence. Grieco follows Crimpy to the Marmalade Café and advises her to get the chocolate shake instead of the strawberry before admitting, "I want you to come in and read for me," and convincing her that his request has nothing to do with her looks. I'm inclined to believe him, because of the CRIMPING! Crimpy goes home to her sister, Everhart, who wears overalls and barely talks. In all honesty, Crimpy talks about Angie like she's retarded, prompting Angie to re-iterate my thoughts from earlier and say, "I'm standing right here!" Crimpy's Biker boyfriend asks for "the clicker" and settles in for a long dangerous night of watching television. Eventually, Crimpy and Grieco fall in love, and Biker kidnaps Angie, because unbeknownst to her, she has some of Biker's drugs (refer to TRUE ROMANCE for more details on this plot).

Bottom line: You will be tempted to watch because of the cast, but resist.

I should have known better
BigGuy22 August 2001
With an all star cast including Angie Everhart, Richard Greico, Andrew Dice Clay, and Sebastian Bach, how could this movie not be terrible? Well if it had a semi-coherent plot, decent attempts at acting by all the actors, decent characters, one or two gun fights that didn't look like little kids playing cowboys and indians... Any of those would have been enough. Alas, none of those things happened in this movie.

Angie plays an epileptic, who also must be mentally retarded (the character not the model). Greico plays the world's only non-sleazy talent agent, alright Greico is inherently sleazy, but the character is supposed to not be (suspend disbelief alright!). Clay runs a nudie bar, and is well... Clay. Oh and Sebastian Bach and his hair play a tough. Alright so it is Sebastian Bach trying to play a guy who tries to play tough.

Overall? 1/10 which is the least I am allowed to give!

Long live rock and roll
filmz200420 February 2004
Point Doom is not a chick flick, far from it. It is a hard rock extravaganza with heavy metal music, rappers, strippers and believe it or not some great drama. From the moment Ice T opens up the movie with a couple of beautiful women snorting cocaine from the camera lens you know you're in for an e ticket ride. The plot is very simple but the stylish direction and performances are outstanding. Andrew "Dice" Clay proves that he can act and Richard Grieco comes across at first as another pretty boy but we eventually learn how much depth there is to his character. Angie Everhart plays against type and carries it off well, playing a role that is opposite of her supermodel persona and she really pulls it off. None other than Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) who's gone from playing on screen villains to Jesus Christ proves that he too has some real acting chops. What more can I say about this film except, that this incredible cast coupled with some really cool action makes Point Doom a winner.

Warning: Spoilers
Not sure why all the hate for this film. I picked it up on blu ray a while back and decided to watch it last night. It's not nearly as bad as the rating it currently holds on imdb. Solid 6 imho. Good story had some classic lines, my favorite. "She'll make yout balls dance" Well this movie made my balls dance. Biker gangs, cool sunglasses, strip clubs, Zack Gallagin as Spider, Enos was a brutal bad guy he should have been in way more stuff, O dell was too hot even for Richie G's eyebrows, I had a Good time. Drugs, cash, a little twist. I really enjoyed it. Watch it if your a fan of any of the cast. Dark force teased a good copy of this. Nicholas P.

3 hunks in 1 movie = yummy
usagal19714 July 2006
i saw the movie and thought it was pretty good. also having 3 sexy guys like Sebastian Bach,John Enos and Richard Grieco in 1 movie ..to me is awesome. and yeah there was no sex or nudity in the movie which to me is great..life is about more than that so sit back and enjoy the movie. i know i did. the ending wasn't what i expected either so it kept me on the edge of my seat. all the actors did a great job. so buy the movie or wait to see it on TV. i know u will find it pretty good also if u r not the sex or nudity freak. i also thought Angie Everhart would be the main lady in the movie and she wasn't, it was Jennifer O'dell, which surprised me. i tell u the movie will keep u guessing on how the outcome will me.

Truly not a bad 90 minutes.
midnightcub14 January 2022
To be sure it is the cast that makes this watchable. The script is average and the dialogue never sparkles on its own. Andrew Dice Clay, not one of my favorite comedians, is the highlight of a film I mainly watched for Ice-T & Richard Grieco.

The cinematography is surprisingly well done and creative. If you're 20 or younger you probablywon't find anything of value. If you lived and loved the 80s & 90s...i think you just might actually enjoy this.

Renter Beware!!!
res0irzi25 December 2001
I rented it at Blockbuster in hope of seeing Angie does some "good" act. Unfortunately, the video is totally different from what the image has conveyed by the backside of the box. It contains neither nudity nor sex. Plot is lame and uninteresting. Don't bother and save yourself a few bucks!

A potentially good film.
Flmcrtic31 May 2001
Point Doom had the potential of being a pretty good movie. It had a great cast: Richard Grieco, Andrew "Dice" Clay, Angie Everhart, Ice T, Zach Galligan, Jennifer O Dell. Great action. Stylish direction. Cool cinematography but it had no real script. The actor's did a phenomenal job with what they were given. But there are times in the movie when you get the feeling that they were making it up as they went along. It's unfortunate that the script was so lacking in substance and plot. A real screenwriter could've turned this average action thriller into a really good film. Never-the-less it is still worth watching.
