In the series finale Norm asks Shelly out and she says yes. He plans their date when Shelly introduces to the office a friend Travis from Colorado, saying he is in town visiting. Norm reacts and she warns him about his issue with jealousy.
Norm stumbles upon a self-proclaimed homeless, jobless teen who boxes like an upcoming pro, and selfishly uses him to make money to pay off his bookie.
To get back into shape for his one-time-only permitted allowance back into hockey, Norm realizes he needs help and enlists his old high school coach, Logan.
Danny becomes jealous when an old football player Taylor knew, shows up at the office as a new employee. Laurie struggles to understand why she doesn't win an award for being one of the best social workers, and seeks advice from her old teacher.
In order to get Shelly to like him, Norm plans to attend a party dressed as a fireman. But he's already agreed to take some kids from a dangerous neighborhood Trick-or-Treating. He struggles at what to do. Danny makes over his new love.
Danny worries over the upcoming of his dad (played by the epic Jack Warden), a strained relationship because the highly masculine father can't relate to his faltering son. Norm befriends Danny's dad only to discover he's gay but in denial.
Norm slips and says "I love you" to Shelly so he tries to convince her he uses the phrase with everyone. Laurie runs for city council against an opponent threatening to close half the social service offices in the city. Look for sight gag.
Laurie sets Norm up with a surprise date and when things go south, the two end up taking somebody else's limo that's going to a music awards ceremony and they become romantically involved. Taylor and Danny's relationship gets more serious.
