Movies from Colombia many times presents stories that are exclusive for evil and without scruples characters that have as devotion the drugs and violence. Very few movies talk about the beauty of my country, or, at least, try to talk of other topics that not are of corruption. Then i watch "Bajo el cielo Antioqueño", a silent, old and (No doubt of it) one of the best Colombian movies that i have seen.
The history of "Bajo el cielo Antioqueño" is about two bourgeoises in Medellín. Lina, is a girl that her father has just taken out of the boarding school so that it takes a social sweet life. While Lina enjoys this social life Álvaro, a man of good position, appears. They love each other, but Lina's father says "no" with this relationship. So Lina and Álvaro decide to escape, but from here the not well interpreted situations makes the separation of the two characters and will we see all the difficulties that crossed to be able to be together another time. Although Lina receives many pretenders. will Lina desist of returning with Álvaro and did she begin a new life? Maybe the things that makes me love more this movie (And like Colombian, i'm really happy and nostalgic) is how through a fun story (Besides, i love silent movies) shows different beauties from Colombia: the houses, The Landscapes, The Nature, The peasants, The Coffee and their production and the happiness of our parties and our pride.
"Bajo el cielo Antioqueño" was the one of the few ones film projects in that time. Headed by Gonzalo Mejía, "Bajo el cielo Antioqueño" was a movie made by the Colombian bourgeoisie for the Colombian bourgeoisie. But the result was very different. Not only the high society likes this, to the one that was directed, but also to the town.
"Bajo el cielo Antioqueño" was restored by "El Patrimonio Filmico Colombiano" that was accompanied by a great remastered work with a great image quality and a spectacular and very Colombian score in some moments. Although and if it didn't mistake me, the movie is not for sale (Still) but it can be enjoyed by several ways, one of them for television (where I saw it) or for the foundations of cinema of the country.
I am happy that there is this kind of movies. Besides that has a historical great importance because shows Colombia in the 20s. "Bajo el cielo Antioqueño" is one of those best audiovisual and historical big documents of Colombia. And although it was a long time ago I hope (And i aspire also contribute) the Colombian cinema improves. We have a lot ... a lot of beautiful things that offer to the world.
