Summaries

  • Manuel Calavera is a travel agent in The Land of the Dead who has stumbled across a ring of corruption.
  • In the land of the dead, something afoul is at play. A travel agent must uncover a web of conspiracy that he's right in the middle of: to find out who is robbing citizens of the dead their right tickets to the land of eternal rest: the Ninth Underworld.—Johnny
  • In a world where, if you had lead a good life, you would have a fast trip to the next stage of existence, something is terribly wrong. Manuel Calavera (you), a sort-of lost soul who is working towards his ascension by being a travel agent in The Land of the Dead discovers that either he is given all the clients which had lead evil lives (and therefore would have to wait a very long time to reach the next stage) or that someone is holding back on all of the good cases that would speed up Manuel's ascension. Fed up with this, Manuel decides to find out what exactly is going on. Is there something going on with the free passes (that very good people get)? And if so, who is behind it? And why?—Lee Horton <Leeh@tcp.co.uk>
  • The Land of the Dead is a transitional place where souls go to make their journey to the next level of existence. Depending on whether you were good or evil in your last life, you can get a great travel package (like a golden ticket on "The Number 9" train to Heaven,) or a walking cane (to prepare you for a four year trek on foot across the land.) Manny Calavera is a travel agent for the Land of the Dead's premier agency for soul direction sales. Manny begins to suspect something, though, when his co-salesman, Domino, is getting all of the golden-ticket passengers, while Manny is getting evil souls. Manny hijacks the soul of Meche, a woman who has lived a good and pure life; but when he runs her soul through the system, it indicates that she was evil and must walk! Before he can stop her, she has begun her trek, and in the process of seeking and finding her (with the help of an elemental spirit called Glottis) he reveals that Domino is running a scam: he is hoarding the golden tickets of good, pure souls, and sending them to the gates of Heaven with counterfeit tickets. Those souls are then directed to the depths of Hell for trying to cheat. Manny joins the resistance movement and heads out on a four-year mission to stop this dastardly plot, save the soul of the beautiful Meche, and hopefully gain some redemption for himself in the process.—James Warnock <jwarnock@tulane.edu>
