The film was shot on a shoe string budget mostly at the director's house.
The film was released in Delhi in 2 theater's and ran houseful for 3 weeks. But the movie was then removed for no reason by distributors. Ashok Ahuja spirit was still running high. He ran ads in papers saying not worry Adharshila would be back soon. Finally Ahuja rented out the Gandhi Memorial Hall which had the barest projection facilities. It was popular for college socials and cultural evening events. Ahuka re-released his film in regular shows. Ahuja gave a open challenge to the distributor's and risked it all by doing this. Ahuja was paying out of his pocket for a theatre that was never looked at as good enough for commercial Hindi movies. The risk paid off and Ahuja made lots of money. From then on the Gandhi Memorial Hall was known as a cinema hall that showed offbeat films that were referred to as art movies in trade circles.
