The real life incident when John and Tom rape Brandon happened on Christmas Eve in 1993 when they dragged him out of a Christmas party, but in the movie, there were no Christmas decorations or even no conversations about Christmas and the rape happened after John and Tom forced Brandon to remove his pants and reveal his genitals to Lana.
