Pierre Villiers, forty years old, is the owner of a beauty products laboratory. He is married to the daughter of his father's partner and owns this flourishing business half with her. They have two children. Villiers is an excellent chemist but he is also a great lover of women and poor Monique Villiers starts to have enough of it. The day she surprises her husband with his secretary she decides to divorce. For Pierre, it is synonymous with disaster. He therefore accepts the conditions dictated by his wife to postpone her decision.

In a small jewelry factory in the Paris region, a box of three hundred gold-plated watches was stolen during the night. The security guard was jostled by the burglar as he fled with the loot. The guard thought he recognized a young worker who had been dismissed from the factory a few weeks earlier. The young man was arrested and brought to the scene: only an employee or former employee of the factory could have known where the watches were, and only a sportsman could have done it. Unfortunately for him, Gérard Michaux is an accomplished sportsman and basketball champion.
