Warning: Spoilers
I didn't feel this was a total waste of time because I found myself exposed to new Canadian talent that I appreciated - all of the main characters EXCEPT for Jack. He was perfectly cast for the personality of the character however I could not understand why someone like Jill would even want to be with a loser like him.

In spite of enjoying everything else about this movie, this put me off enough that I'd have ranked this movie a 1 or 2 if it hadn't been for how the movie ended. For once, a bad movie ended up being not as bad because the ending was believable.

I am looking forward to seeing more work by the actors that played Jill and Stephen. I wish their biographies on IMDb had a bit more information.

Not a romantic comedy!

This movie is a study of an average relationship. Which has its ups and downs (mostly downs). All the characters are great. While I personally didn't find Jack all that appealing, he played his role well. The women in the movie seemed flawless in their characters portrayal. If you like movies which tend to be a bit harder, realistic, and deeper, then this movie would be a good choice.

When Jack and Jill go up the marriage hill, its Jack only that takes a fall
inkblot1121 November 2006
Jack has a beautiful live-in girlfriend named, appropriately, Jill. With Jill paying most of the bills from her steady job, its a wonder Jack decides to call off their impending wedding. However, Jack has his roving eye on a beautiful lady he met at the bookstore. Jill, very hurt, goes to the bookseller's herself for some diverting reading and ends up charmed by an employee named Stephen. They begin to date, even as Jack is arranging encounters with his new lady, too. Yet, Jack's relationship partner tells him frankly that the duration of their affections will be short as she is about to return to her native country. Has Jack made a colossal mistake? This is a fun movie from Canada. Set in lovely Toronto, the characters are all interesting and charming folks. There is another love story going on as well between a waitress, who has lent her ear to both Jack and Jill's tales of woe, and a policeman. With three tales of romance in the air, this is a winner for romcom fans, certainly. But, the offbeat nature of the characters makes it a good choice for couples, too. Just watch Jack, in line at the grocery store, try to explain why he's paying for his order but not the added-on taxes....funny, funny. A small warning: there is a smattering of bad language here and there. Yet, if you are an avid film enthusiast who thinks there's nothing new at the video store or library, try to get this movie into your clutches. Chuckles will erupt at any showing.

A slice of comical urban reality served with a side of fries.

I really liked this film. Jack and Jill is a story so true to life that it was almost as if the writer knew my friends and was exposing them for the flawed, confused, comical HUMANS they are. Strong performances from all cast members suggests that they really enjoyed their roles and John Kalangis was natural, perfectly played and quite hilarious as the confused and sometimes not- so -nice Jack. I'm dying to see a sequel or even a television show based on these juicy characters. Great roles for women too - untypical of those other Canadian films. -Fred

Boring low budget soap opera better left on the bottom shelf collecting dust
bradmoore12 September 2007
Brutal stereotypical soap opera with a low budget and totally uninteresting characters set in bleary U.S. wanna be Toronto. One wonders where they even got the low budget to even make this dreck, I would sooner have another root canal done and watch CNN at the dental surgeon then to sit through this tepid boring story. Save your money and time and take a pass on this one to save your mind from the tedious dialog. Canada is much more capable of making movies than this dustbin favourite. I happened to watch on cable and thank god for my laptop to distract me or I would have turned it off ten minutes into it. There are much better way to spend your time 2 out of 10 stars
