Esperanza explores the identity and relationship we have with God. The inconclusive details of the film pose very personal questions, "Do I believe God is with me?," "Are miracles a present-day occurrence" and "Is faith a viable form of learning and understanding the world in which we live?"
Whether you believe in miracles and or God, the film treats important issues of human nature and human weakness in a humane and humorous way.
The film's weakness lies in the smashed narrative, which does not allow for deep character development--in other words the film needs to be at least twenty-minutes longer.
