An Aspect of the Macross Legend that is more than likable at face value.
gohmifune16 May 2004
Many dislike this series, many compare it to the original or Plus, but this isn't wise. This show is meant to be a different kind of show. Lighthearted and fun. Good music in the foreground and likable characters. The show has aged pretty well being that it is ten years old. The show being about a music group that saves the world isn't new the macross fan, however it is a little hard to adjust, but all is well, it is a very well made show.

Give it a change, a few episodes in you'll be singing totsugeki love heart. Really, it isn't as bad as other say, now if you will excuse me, I must go watch Macross Zero.

the music will save us!

Macross 7 is indeed an odd one that took some getting used to on my part. A city-scale space ship under attack by psychic vampires? Yeah, okay. So why are they bugging us with this sub-plot about these silly pop-stars? Oh: the pop-stars are also fighter pilots. And they fight the psychic vampires by *singing bad pop songs at them*. There's a peculiar premise behind all this about music as a powerful motivational force, and an apparently sincere belief that you need to listen to bright, happy, bouncy music all the time or else you may collapse into a grumpy pit of depression. Strangely enough, many people react badly to all this (A comment on alt.Gothic from someone who uses "macross" as his handle: "Macross 7 is retarded"), but if you're looking for exposure to an alien point of view or for that matter just looking for silly kitsch, "Macross 7" may be just the thing for you.

Macross 7 review

Macross 7 is kind of spins off from any other macross in it story (less drama but more focus on sending Songs Culture to everything) , the most attractive in Macross 7 is Song it's pretty great and when u watch it more and more in episodes Song will Move you , yes it's move you . it's not like Triangle love like Other Macross it's about passionate of sings not just for himself but for everyone like Captain Global said to spread Culture across Galaxy and this is truly it , unlike Minmay that sings for herself because of Hikaru or Myung stopped singing because she can passes to both man she love , later the Sheryl Nome (Macross Frontier) is truly character inspire by Nekki Basara. FIre BOmBer .

you might get a bit annoying about Basara at first but as i said more u watch the more u get in it.

It will grow on you...

For fans of the original Macross series, this version will probably throw you for a loop. It does have it's serious tone and at the same time it's campy colorfulness. It is not the same soap opera as were the previous series that came before it. For those looking the classic emotionally felt saga with love triangles and epic battles, this series is not for you. However, if you are seeking some fun and light hearted entertainment, then sit back and enjoy the ride. The battles do share the same large epic style as did the original saga, but they add a sense of fun and adventure instead of the lingering dangers. And the addition of the music, this series becomes very colorful from beginning to end. It also helps to have a few "cool" looking mecha flying about. The character and technology designs are probably some of the best. This series is very much a different take on this universe. A campy take, but a entertaining one none the less. The music and characters will grow on you as the story progresses. Definitely, a series not a to underestimate.

Great series

I agree with most of what the previous comment stated... Macross 7 is indeed a big change in attitude. But it's a rather good one, in my opinion. The characters in Mac 7 are just so quirky that you'll grow very attached to them. You get to love Basara's attitude and Mylene's obsession for nagging him... And of course Veffidas' obsessive compulsive drumming. The characters just make me want to laugh out loud in every episode, and sing along with their songs. By the way, it also takes some time to get used to the music--I'll admit that when I first started the series I really didn't like Fire Bomber's music. But it really does grow on you, and I was moved to buy many of their soundtracks a while ago.

Mac 7 is a wonderful series if you want something with a light mood and don't mind the strange stuff that happens in the plot. The animation quality also isn't top notch... they re-use a lot of animations in the concert and fight scenes. But the art is amazing to me, especially the facial expressions of Mylene and Basara. It really is worth at least watching once.
