Anil Kapoor stated "Yes, I started working on Woh 7 Din in 1982. I was not getting any work in Mumbai as an actor - besides bit roles. I thought I was cut out for bigger things. So I said, let me start helping out my brother [Boney] with production in Chennai. He was taking over dad's work in Hum Paanch. Being the eldest, he was looking after finance, while I did all the odd jobs. I would also stand-in for actors while the scenes were being set up. Bapu saab was the director. I would show him how good I could give a shot. He would observe. That's when he offered me the Telugu film [Vamsa Vruksham]. And then he directed my first [Hindi] film [as lead], Woh 7 Din, with the script written by K Bhagyaraj".
Hum Paanch was declared a hit, but Boney Kapoor was still not ready to make a film with Anil Kapoor. Anil stated his patience had begun to flag. He was turning irritable, edgy, hysterical. Bapu had become fond of Anil during the making of Hum Paanch. Bapu offered Anil the film, Vamsa Vriksham. Anil accepted it despite it being in a language he did'nt know. It was the only way he could keep his nerves calm. He needed to work as a solo hero in a film. The film was a hit and Anil was mobbed by eager fans who wanted to know who the new fair complexion hero was. They had no idea he was a Hindi speaking actor from Bombay. To practice his dialogues, he would mug his lines in his hotel room the night prior.
Later dubbed in Hindi as Pyar Ka Sindoor.
