The fox's backpack disappears when he loses the crow by skiing over a stump. It does not reappear until the crow spots the fox setting out a picnic on the cliff.
When the fox digs himself out of the snowball, he is no longer wearing his backpack. He leaves and exits the scene without putting it back on. But in the next scene, he is wearing it again.
