- Desperate to earn money to support his extended family, Mohan becomes entangled in a web of deceit when he tells a lie in order to obtain a secretarial job in the city with the wealthy Mr Rai. He says he isn't married. But he is. Mr Rai has a daughter with a heart condition. She's confined to a wheelchair but Mohan has more than a mild therapeutic effect on her and she is soon up and running - running after him. Meanwhile, back in the village, the money he has been sending home is being filched by his greedy sister. Soon, mother, wife and a flock of children come looking for him and Mohan finds himself leading a double life in an increasingly desperate effort to avoid all parties learning the truth.—van Goethem
- After completing his post graduation in Science, Mohan returns home to Ram Nagar, where his widowed mother, Janki, lives with his step-sister, Durga, her husband, Ramdas, and a son; a grown sister, Sudha; two younger brothers, and a sister; his wife, Shobha, and daughter, Guddi. He finds his mother and his younger siblings laboring, while the house is heavily mortgaged. He decides to re-locate to Bombay, where he meets with his friend, Dr. Manohar, and through him gets employed with Kamalrai Mansukhlal. He sends money to his family at Ram Nagar, but Durga decides to keep it all for herself, and forces the rest of the family to leave. Janki, Shobha, Guddi, and all of Mohan's siblings end up on the streets in Bombay, and after several days are able to locate Mohan, who takes them to Manohar's house and ensures that all are looked after. He also brings home a repentant Durga, Ramdas and their son, after he finds out that they were working as laborers at a construction site. The family settle down to a fairly harmonious lifestyle, which is shattered after Shobha finds out that her husband has been leading a double life, and is getting formally engaged to his employer's daughter, Radha, in exchange for two Lakh Rupees.—rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)
