Mixed combo porn, done fake-documentary style

More opportunistic than pretentious, SATISFACTION is a porn film that tries to gussy up the standard XXX content with the pretense of giving the viewer a behind-the-scenes view of the business. It's a fake and frankly boring exercise, reissued on Vol. 113 of Something Weird's Dragon Art Theatre series.

Opening credits, written (but actually done with special opticals) on the sand, each washed away by the surf, make for a promising start, though they're all fake names displayed. Beautiful Julie is sunbathing on the beach, playing with her dog Charley. A clumsy flashback establishes her humping Black boyfriend Randall, who is very possessive. But his attempts to boss her around are dropped in the sketchy storyline.

Back on the beach she's handed the usual pick-up lines by balding John Seeman, a ringer (for porn fans) if ever there was one. Film lost me in the first reel when Seeman asks her if her boyfriend is paying the rent -she answers in the affirmative, causing big John to launch into the thousandth iteration of the corny porn proselytizing/self-justification speech. You know, "we're all whores", as he stresses there's no difference between her being subsidized by Randall and his having gainful employment as a porn actor. It makes no sense, but this crap is dished out in so many porn films, often in the form of a prostitute telling a housewife "there's no difference between us" that it's gotten annoying to suffer through.

To show he's serious, Seeman gives her a card of his talent agent, setting in motion what passes for a plot. Of course she eventually uses the card, visits the agent (who is coincidentally Black, so that additional interracial sex is provided for the fans) who humps her every which way to "test" her suitability (yeah, right), and ironically she ends up back with doting John, surprising him as his new leading lady on a porn set. Finis.

Along the way film is pure filler in the form of "actual" porn being shot, on a mattress in a grubby studio. A Black actress gets ripped off, she being called upon to have sex with Seeman but doesn't get paid -more mixed combo stuff. Good old Ken Scudder (his presence plus Seeman's implies this junk was San Francisco-made) shows up at the agent's office and is called upon to service his girl friend, a cute girl who resembles Andy Bellamy, but isn't as top heavy. The sex scenes deliver the goods, but with an overemphasis on gynecological exam-level closeups.

This is a cheapie, with the bare studio plus mattress plus "swing" (for kinky suspended in air sex) substituting for sets. Having some clunky directors on camera throwing around a bit of technical jargon is unconvincing.

The anonymous heroine is young and attractive but can't recite dialog, most of her shy pronouncements unintelligible due to poor enunciation. Seeman never gets to shtup her, so she seems typecast as an Interracial Sex specialist on the basis of this junker.

Musical track is horrendous, bookended of course with the Stones' hit "Satisfaction" and then robbing much of the soundtrack LP for Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" plus a bit of free jazz, some rinky-dink '20s music (that often accompanies stags) and tastelessly the theme from "Around the World in 80 Days" when a couple using the swing come close to twisting the poor guy's cock off.

IMDb has recently awarded credit for this loser to Richard Mailer, but (especially given its West Coast shooting status) it doesn't resemble his work.
