Bad dog!
This Van Buren cartoon is pretty typical of their output. The film features two things you expect from a Van Buren production, relatively cheap animation and a lot of singing. It's a shame, as the story is actually very good for a Van Buren film.
The story finds a criminal dog doing all sorts of wicked things. First, it hires a group of cats to sing and annoy everyone...so that the neighbors will be annoyed and start throwing stuff at the cats...and the dog can then steal any of the good stuff that lands! Then, he hires a sophisticated cat to sneak in and steal some valuable jewels from a lady cat...but they instead fall in love. Naturally, the jerk dog is NOT happy.
The story is unusual...more of a love story than a comedy. But I liked it. It's a shame, as the animation is a definite detriment...as well as the singing. Watchable...but nothing more.
