a film you can afford to miss
kalu10 October 1999
Mister Breuer, an eager businessman, finds out - some day - that the prosperity of his own 'consulting' company might not be the only goal in life. Wow, what a story!

This film relies heavily on verbal jokes. You should have a sense of humor for the *dry sort of humor* germans are said to have. After about half of the film even the few funny elements get worn out (for example the running gag with Breuer's incredible mother).

Although i have no doubt that people like Breuer exist, i give the film 40% at best. There are simply too many lame scenes not really working (especially the plot around the wife of the manager Breuer fired and tries to 'buy' for a night afterwards).

Watch 'Allein unter Frauen' if you want to see something really funny!

PASSABLE
J. Steed30 September 1999
An only passable psychological thriller. The story material could have lead to an entertaining film, but it hardly differentiates itself: as so often with the mainstream (tv)cinema of the 90's director Martin Enten made a film you seem to have watched a thousand times before.

Enten uses quite some tricks to make it visually different, but most of these are meaningless as they are not a part of a certain style. A good example is the annoyingly waltzing camera during the conversation between Reinhart and Alex; did Enten really believe that this would give the scene more tension? Only one sequence (Anna and Reinhart at the lodge) is really successful; here the feelings and tenderness between the two are well hit.
