Biggest norwegian turkey since HIMMEL OG HELVETE (1969) !
Renaldo Matlin23 May 1999
I can only guess that director Gustavson thought he was making some sort of masterpiece for the youths of today. But what he ended up with was this loud, too stupid for words, 90 minute music video! A messy rehash of every turkey in norwegian cinema with echoes of would-you-believe THE SHINING! The female lead character "TK" (Camilla Strøm Henriksen) shouts and shouts and shouts through the entire movie, maybe because that's the only way possible for us to hear her lines over Randall Meyers' NOISY soundtrack. When it comes to clichès they have managed to throw in everything but the kitchen sink in portraying the local farmers and fishermen in the movie. This is the first picture in years to actually give me a real headache, and just for that director Gustavson should find himself a corner to go stand in.

Terrible!!!

This movie is just terrible! How stupid is it possible to make a movie in Norway today? Watch this movie and you will know! A lot of noises, "MTV - cutting" and bad actors! How or where did they get money to make this crap? It makes me sick when I think about it!

A Hollywood flick in Norwegian language
Exiled_Archangel27 May 2004
The only difference of Weekend from a Hollywood movie is the fact that it's not in English, and you therefore require subtitles to understand it. Well, you still won't understand much until the last 20-25 minutes, which is when things start to unfold. That's somewhat interesting, but doesn't really work excellent with the rest of the "style" in this movie. Ok maybe I'm a bit unfair, the characters are more realistic than Hollywood films as well. Especially TK. But it's still a mediocre movie, nothing fantastic. Just like another person who has commented on this movie earlier, I expected much more out of this one, so I couldn't help getting disappointed. It's not garbage, quite watchable indeed. Just didn't live up to my expectations...

I would say 6.5/10

It's not bad...not the greatest either.

I expected more from this movie. There seemed to be quite a bit of action by watching it at the beginning. But there seems to be quite a bit of talking in the middle. However, there are a few scenes that are worth watching which will catch the attention. Its true there is quite a bit of arguing and screaming by a frustrated and angry young lady...but there is a reason within the storyline.

Overall, I was a bit disappointed at the movie perhaps mainly because I had higher expectations. However, this film is definitely 'watchable'. There are indeed some good parts in it. It's not bad, but I wouldn't make it one of my favourite Norwegian films either.

If you added these same elements in a "Hollywood film" you'd get a different story..

Warning: Spoilers
Lets face it, how many Hollywood films could boast of a story line such as this: A drug addicted pair breaks into a house, steals the owner's car and accidentally kidnaps his child..(if you left out the hard core drug use its sounds like the start to a typical "comedy") But at first the story seems cryptic.. speaks in codes and seemingly the lies such as what "TK" told the little girl, to say she was her little sister...(later on its actually that the character's kidnapping victim is really in fact her half sister she'd been dying to meet) Now maybe the "hunters" and "fishermen" etc are played up to being quite shallow and superficial versions of what they are to portray.. but then again.. these wildish refugees from a rehab clinic on a weekend of breaking and entering, etc make everyone who is not seen in the story with much depth rather flat... its because of the perspective I suppose..

But we all take the perspective of what we know.. if fed a diet of "Hollywood Action" films at breakneck speed, the subtle things such as a few key words and the way they are spoken in the dialog may be easily overlooked. Its not the film's actions but its subtleties I was more involved with...the lies which become suddenly truths.. and also the fact, you end up having to trust (if you get involved with the story line) TK.... understanding finally her intent..but the problem is its also a choice the view has been given.. even in the "God's eye" perspective.

I know I didn't miss it.. I wonder how many do? Turkey film? Maybe. If you don't look carefully, you can miss the diamonds in the dirt..
