Felix the Cat meets Christopher Columbus!
Gblakelii8 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Just an average Felix the Cat cartoon this time around. The opening scene has Felix coming out of his "barrel" home and walking over to the 400 Club. He then proceeds to look through the peep hole and watches the interior crowd dance. The next step is to sneak in, using the back entrance. As he arrives to the middle of the by now empty dance floor and stands to greet the gang, he is ignored! Finally, one of the higher ups approaches and tells him to leave, stating that only those with "unquestionable lineage" are accepted here. He wastes no time and promptly kicks Felix out. This cat is not one to give up easily, so he decides to fake a pedigree. Felix then advances back into the club and relates his past relatives story. His 1st ancestors were aboard the Ark which is powered by ducks, has a "fog horn" in the form of a snake and a lookout by way of giraffe. It soon comes to pass that Noah slips on a bar of soap and plunges into the ocean. Felix' ancestor pair make use of their 9 lives and form a ladder to Noah, thus saving the day. Next we arrive at the year 1000 BC, Egypt. A king is auditioning 2 dancers. They're not so hot, thus leaving him no choice but to shoot them! (And you thought sound cartoons were violent!) Felix the 2nd, teaches the king to do a modern dance. The king gets worked up to such a frenzy that he bursts into a thousand pieces. The cat smoothly takes his place. Finally we advance to the year 1492 in which Felix the 3rd will prove to Columbus that the world is round. Columbus has a hard time believing, so the crafty feline throws a brick(a la Ignatz Mouse)around the world, and upon its return it bonks Christopher in the head! Back in the present, Felix adds that he will next boast of his family tree. He goes outside, uproots a tree full of cats and presents it to the 400 Club. That does it! They readily accept him as a member and pin his official member button on. This entry in the Felix series is not as inventive as the others, nor does the art work deviate from the standard, for the most part. The print viewed, unfortunately had many lines in it. Running time, 11.5 minutes.
