Dr. I.Q. begins an era of game shows!
Celtic4722 July 2006
James McClain was the icon who coined the phrase, "Give that gentleman/lady a silver dollar!" His radio show Dr. I.Q. was the first of it's kind, a game show where people answered trivia questions and won prizes. It was wildly popular and has become a part of popular culture from that era. It later went on to have a shorter life on television during the early days of that genre, and leaves a legacy that is unique and much copied. James McClain was a charismatic, multi-talented, driven performer. Originally an Episcopalian priest, he went on to raise a large family, experience ground-breaking status in the world of entertainment and broadcasting, taught theology with great passion, wrote a spectacular historical novel about his family's history in the south, and wrote poetry that was both deeply spiritual, personal and brilliant...and did these things prolifically until his death in his late 80's. James McClain was a class act to the end.
