Synopsis

  • Gary is a sick wheelchair-bound man who needs a heart. He suffered a heart attack while arguing with his wife Tess over her supposed infidelity.Oversexed Tess is having an affair with narcissistic writer Alex. Tensions between Gary and Tess. She carries a bucket to the garden. It is covered tightly. She undoes it and dumps out the water into a hole, along with a drowned cat! Apparently she killed Gary's beloved cat to get back at her husband.Tess is later driving on a freeway when flies start filling her car. They are coming from the exhaust vents. Narrowly avoiding an accident, she stops on the road and opens the hood of her car where she finds the dead and decomposing cat, which her husband apparently dug up and put there. She is next seen throwing a bag over a bridge, presumably holding the cat.

A struggling female drug addict runs over and kills a young motorcycle rider and his heart is used to save Gary, who develops a new lease on life and threatens Alex, who forces him out of his house with a rifle.Gary tells Tess he can accept the affair as long as it's over now.Alex is angry and bitter over being dumped and wants to renew the affair.

Gary is still humiliated by the affair and befriends Maria, the grieving mother of the young man whose heart he was given, and she becomes drawn into his obsessive desire for retribution and even confides when her son was a little boy she gave him a mouth job to stop his erection so he could sleep. Maria is also angry that the woman who accidentally ran over and killed her son only got 10 months.

Maria becomes attached to Gary since her son's heart is in his body, but a doctor claims her son's heart was defective so another heart was given to Gary, and Gary knows.Maria is crushed and slashes at the doctor with a scalpel. she confronts Gary who is working in the hospital too but he denies it and says he does have her son's heart. Apparently the doctor made that up to get Maria away from Gary and Tess.Later, after Gary beats Alex up in a parking lot after he publicly trashes him at a book party,Alex gets even by ruthlessly seducing Tess again, but they are filmed on a parking lot camera and while Gary is taking Maria to her car to avoid hospital security after she assaulted the doctor,he sees it.

Gary flies into a rage and drives to Alex's house with Maria in the car.He tells her to wait and he goes up and confronts Gary and Tess when he sees them naked in the upper window. He swings a crowbar at Alex, who ducks and he accidentally hits Tess and kills her by shattering her skull.Alex loads his gun,but Gary disarms him and beats him nearly to death and shoots him dead with it. Maria hears a gunshot.Gary staggers outside in shock and slits his own throat in front of her.

Maria knows her son's heart is in Gary's body and cuts it out and rides with it in a bloody bag on a train. The horrified conductor alerts the police who find her at her son's grave and arrest her.She pleads guilty to the murders of Tess,Alex, and Gary and is sent to prison where it turns out she wanted to go anyway because the woman who killed her son is there. One day, after finishing her laundry chores,Maria confronts the woman and kills her.
