The convict volunteer is still walking later in the movie without the use of the Augmentor. In every other instance, the Augmentor's effects wear off immediately after the device is removed or deactivated.

Many doors with keycard locks have manual locks for the deadbolt in case of a power outage, meaning an ordinary metal key will work just fine. Since the door to the laboratory has a manual lock on the doorknob, there's no reason Sam couldn't pick it; a "separate code" wouldn't prevent the manual mechanism from working.
