All in all a good film, with slight flaws
movieman_kev1 October 2005
Georgina Spelvin is Maddie Stone, a woman who's in desperate need of money when her very wealthy husband has a heart attack during a sexual encounter with her (what a way to go, right?). So she plans to hook either her two girls (Annette Haven and Clair Dia, the former a future legend of porn, the later sadly forgotten) with wealthy men in order to still live in the way she's grown accustomed to. At one point it showed a sex scene in a barn at an angle that it was on Annette's ass and at first I was mortified that she apparently didn't do a good job wiping after a bowel movement, yea I know it was probably just some black pubic hair, but it killed my erection dead because it DID look like something else. Other than that and the encompassing question of what the hell ever happened to Clair Dia who left the industry in 1979, I enjoyed the film and was nicely acted for a porn film.

My Grade: B-

Mamma's girls meet American materialism
jaibo10 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This porn comedy deals with a recently widowed Matron who hawks her two young daughters around the mansions and estates of various wealthy degenerates in order to get them married off. The film begins with the mother, Maddy (Georgina Spelvin), going at it with her middle-aged husband and shouting dirty instructions to the poor old boy - he promptly expires from a heart attack as soon as the sex is done, and Maddie collects her daughters and begins her quest.

Before they go on their journey, red-headed daughter Penny has sex with her older lover. There's a nice scene of them role-playing together, then he teaches her what a man wants (to be seduced, to be undressed, to have his dick sucked) and she's a very willing pupil (the sex scene is a bit dull). Once Maddie has whisked Penny and her sister Cissie away on their travels, no sex quite so sweet ensues. Cissie - more of a freewheeling slut than her sister - is the first to meet a wealthy beau, and is screwed in a hayloft. But baulks at her rich farm heir's suggestion that they get up at six in the morning to feed the chickens.

Maddie then drags the girls to a Story of O-type mansion where a lubricious one-eyed millionaire plays raunchy and quite incoherent games with his guests, spying on them with a video-camera as they perform pre-ordained sexual tasks (a kind of porno Big Brother). We get sessions of lesbianism, s&m, a threesome and some ordinary f**king; the most entertaining part of this is some shtick with a rancid old English army General who fails miserably in his attempt to "punish" Cissie. Penny is browned-off with the whole business by now, and runs off to rejoin her older inamorato, and the two of them affirm their mutual love. Maddie and Cissie decamp to a yacht where the daughter elopes with a millionaire's son, but he has been disinherited. Maddie is disappointed but given a pep-talk by the millionaire and all ends happily.

The film is interesting because it strips the clothes off of the old "How to Marry a Millionaire" scenario, and shows America as a place where a mother might be so scared of poverty that she is willing to pimp her own daughters to any Tom, Dick or Harry so long as he's stinking rich. As usual with American culture, the critique of materialism is healed over by an affirmation of following one's heart and true love, which is rather soft-soap given the dirty dawgs we've witnessed. The style of the film aside from the sex scenes is entertainingly John Waters-like, with Georgina Spelvin giving a spirited comic turn as Maddie, always ready with a catty put-down or rant against poverty.

Amazingly, when this hardcore feature was released in the UK in 1980, it was cut by a whopping 40 minutes. But given how generic and dreary most of the sex scenes are, the best was probably preserved.

Mother Knows Best
Nodriesrespect30 August 2007
Producer Harold Lime, the Louis B. Mayer of porn, set out to make big studio-type movies with all star casts, lavish production values and an upbeat message. Before hitting his stride in his justly praised collaborations with Gary Graver a/k/a "Robert McCallum" as the '70s gave way to the '80s (ECSTASY GIRLS, AMANDA BY NIGHT, INDECENT EXPOSURE), he had already teamed up with another co-conspirator from his sexploitation days when he was better known as "Ted Paramore", the man who gave the world the classic "nudie cutie" NOT TONIGHT, HENRY. The filmmaker in question was the sadly overlooked Richard Kanter, who had made the popular RIBALD TALES OF ROBIN HOOD prior to embarking on an all too short-lived explicit career as "Ramsey Karson". Though his initial alignment with Lime remains his finest achievement, he would also direct the massively underrated "loop carrier" UNTAMED and the bloated if occasionally effective SENSUAL ENCOUNTERS OF EVERY KIND for him. For DESIRES WITHIN YOUNG GIRLS, a title forever targeted by moral crusaders because of its supposed pedophile suggestion (oh, get a life, you lot !), this twosome emulated Old Hollywood in their choice of material as well as style with a sexed-up rendition of the Marilyn Monroe soufflé HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE.

When aging gold-digger Madeleine Stone (the incomparable Georgina Spelvin) embraces widowhood for the second time as husband number 2 (John Leslie in fairly convincing old man make-up) comes and goes at the same time, if you catch my drift, she finds her amorously amassed fortune dwindling rapidly. The time is ripe to call on her two daughters from her first marriage who have been kept stashed away at a posh boarding school out of mom's way. Now that she considers herself too old to trap a wealthy spouse, Maddie wants her girls to pick up where she left off and marry into money. While adventurous Cissy (Annette Haven displaying rarely tapped comedic abilities) is pretty much game for any scheme her mother could dream up, the more level-headed Penny (unjustly forgotten Clair Dia who had co-starred with Spelvin in Graver's excellent 3 A.M.) refuses to go along now that she has found love with her drama teacher Marc (also played by John Leslie). A maiden attempt to get Cissy hitched to a rich ranch owner's hilariously cowpoke son ("Radio" Ray Wells) doesn't provide the expected result. So Maddie decides to throw her offspring to the wolves – pity the wolves ! – by attending an elegantly perverted soirée thrown by her old friend and partner in slime Harrison, another expert portrayal of sophisticated sleaze by the legendary John Alderman a/k/a "Frank Hollowell".

This lengthy sequence makes up the meat of the movie and comprises several well-done erotic encounters. A stroke of genius caused the casting of near lookalikes Bonnie Holiday, star Haven's erstwhile girlfriend who introduced her to the industry and subsequently made history, and all but forgotten Joan Devlon (who did her finest work in William Dancer's seldom seen NIGHT PLEASURES) for the obligatory Sapphic session, as the model and the snooty Baroness respectively, scored with the kind of mock Morricone music that always seemed to accompany such scenes in '60s saucy Euro fare. Cissy's supposed S&M session with campy General Chesley No one (who appeared in such sexploitation classics like Walt Davis's outrageous EVIL COME EVIL GO and Stu Segall's SADDLE TRAMP WOMEN) remains one of the funniest moments in any sex comedy. Penny expertly turns off – no, that's not a typo ! – millionaire playboy Turk Lyon with Cissy stepping in for some carnal comfort. Dominatrix Sabrina (who had a small part in Bob Chinn's very funny HARD SOAP HARD SOAP) wanders about threatening various participants yet remains all talk and little action. One of this reviewer's all time favorite scenes comes – and, boy, does it ever ! – in the gentle deflowering of devastatingly handsome Jon Martin (those familiar with his near-mummified appearance of the late '80s are in for a serious shock) at the hands and so much more of achingly sweet Gail Lawrence a/k/a "Abigail Clayton" and fly by night starlet Stacy Evans. Annette's frequent screen partner Paul Thomas provides the romantic capper as Maddie's plans are sabotaged, or are they ?

A final word on Caballero's current DVD presentation of this classic. A lengthy film for its day, when everything over 90 minutes was considered excessive, it has rarely been seen in a complete version. Alas, this is still not the case. Though they have reinstated the casually cut seduction of Clair Dia by John Leslie, an exceptionally erotic encounter I am glad to have finally witnessed, this apparently came at the expense of another highlight : Annette's energetic romp with chauffeur John Seeman. An early crucial expository sequence of Georgina picking the girls up from school has also been completely removed, presumably because of the (clearly adult) actresses' school girl uniforms and the under-age implications thereof, but it makes the flick's story-line unnecessarily incoherent. A trivia note in parting. The film's cast contains an inordinate amount of performers who would become directors in their own right eventually. Now, Leslie and Thomas are obvious, but John Seeman would also go on to make several interesting movies like VIRGINIA and TEN LITTLE MAIDENS and Clair Dia was one of all too few (albeit short-lived) female filmmakers with the wonderful HEALTH SPA and its sweet sleeper follow-up SCREWPLES.

A non-serious porno flick
robred6913 February 2001
Yeah yeah , Ive watched this film. Georgina Spelvin opens the scene with a display of middle-aged romping that leaves her wealthy husband dead. The plot runs along the lines , that the rich lady , in order to remain in her expensive lifestyle pairs her daughters off with rich heirs to millions, so that a problem is taken off her hands. One of her daughters is Annette Haven , I use this term with a firm tongue in my cheek , but she is actually pretty good in this picture.

The usual shots of oral and penetration scenes abound...but the great moment in the film , is when Georgina Spelvin takes her daughters to this rather over-indulged Jeremy Irons character (He even sounds like him)and there have this sexual competition which involves Sado-Masochism and lesbian scenes...not bad. The clincher for arousal goes to the 3 in a bed romp , with one innocent (you have to smirk) man being introduced to the world of Menage Trois by 2 maids.

Quite rightly one of Georgina's daughters runs off from this horror of orgy and finds true love with an earlier partner in the film. Meanwhile like Annette Haven does , she is having the time of her life by grinding a wealthy fat playboy into submission. To sum up, this is a non-serious porno flick ( Which porno is serious??) but Annette Haven's performance is actually quite good , for a woman with an insatiable appetite for sex. Georgina Spelvin went on to (smirk) better things with The Devil in Miss Jones and Police Academy , which I think was a cameo...

Anyway an Annette Haven's fan must this flick...Whatever happened to her????
