Lots of skin, otherwise routine
Tito-810 December 1998
As standard direct-to-video erotica goes, this film isn't bad, but remember, these films aren't about the plot or the acting, but about the flesh. Let's face it, if you're truly looking for a good movie, then you KNOW from the title that this isn't likely to be the answer. So a movie like this comes down to what you think of the appearance of the female leads (sexist, but true). For me, Tane McClure looked old and tired and plastic, just like she always does. But Gabriella Hall made the movie bearable, for she is simply drop-dead gorgeous, with a stunning body and a face to match. I'd apologize for the superficial review, but that's what these movies are all about. They're all about liking what you see, since the writing is rarely good enough for you to like what you hear.

Average for the genre
augustian30 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I have liked erotic thrillers for some time so when I discovered that this movie had been released in the UK under the title Weekend In Vegas, I decided to give it a try. I have also seen the US Unrated VHS release which differs in a few minor details.

The VHS box mentions "indecent proposal" in its tag line so it would seem that any similarity between this movie and Indecent Proposal is purely intentional. A young married couple, Jed and Sally Willis (Tim Abell and Gabriella Hall) come to Las Vegas and lose a lot of money. Sherry Landis (Tane McClure) who is now playing Robert Redford's character offers to waive the account for a night of passion with Jed but the deal is not as obvious as it looks.

There are subplots in this movie which are not explored fully. Flashbacks tell us that Jed and Sherry have a history together but this is not expanded. Who is the shadowy Stan (Peter Spellos) and what is his relationship with Sherry? There is a final twist but a lot is left unexplained.

The acting is about par for the course. Tane McClure's performance only picks up when she and Tim Abell get together. Gabriella Hall is more convincing and of course she looks good with or without her clothes. A mention should go to Ashley Bates who has a minor role but her brief time on screen shows that as well as looking good there is some good acting talent.

The minor differences mentioned above: the sex scenes in Weekend In Vegas are shorter and one is slow motion, and a breakfast scene at the Willis home is omitted from the US VHS.

This is not the worst movie of its kind that I have seen but neither is it one of the best so a rating of 5 stars seems fair.

well worth one English pound
SheriffOFlannahan28 January 2005
I bought this film on DVD from the pound shop for, yes, one WHOLE English pound. I was drawn into making the purchase due to the pictures of naked women on the back and thought the film would be good for a laugh with my mates. I was right. "Sexual Roulette" makes the film sounds rather intriguing, but the version I bought was under the alternate title "weekend in Vegas" which is I feel rather dull in comparison, but for a pound I wasn't going to complain. The film itself contains some awful performances from the actors and actresses involved, the best among them is probably the Michael Douglas-esqe (well he looks a bit like him here) lead character of Jed played by Tim Abell, who goes from angry, to horny, to angry/horny all within a few moments. The plot is a bit "indecent proposal" type and has plenty of poorly filmed sex scenes, but the most annoying thing is that the whole film is just clogged up with pointless shots of Las Vegas, the same ones repeated over and over again!! it seems to me like they finished the film and it only ended up at around 40 minutes long so they just got some aerial shots of the strip to fill the gaps. There is some far fetched storyline about debt and some people get killed but this is just a low budget film which is good for a laugh at its expense. I recommend this film be watched whilst drunk. I think there a load of copies left at the pound shop....

yet another "erotic thriller"
babeulous2 July 2001
Gabriella Hall and Tracey Warfel (Playboy's _Blondes, Brunettes, Redheads_ 1997) are both beautiful. Hall can act, Warfel doesn't really get a chance. Unfortunately, Tane McClure has the female lead in this picture.

There's nobody to like or feel sorry for in this picture. Everybody's mean to everybody else. Warfel has one good scene.

If you don't try to guess it, the ending might surprise you. I guess that makes it a mystery. There are some sex scenes, but they're short and not particularly thrilling.

It's Not What It Looks Like! Let Me Explain!!
refinedsugar10 October 2023
Is what you say to your wife after she's catches you humping a busty blonde, right? A lot of guys are willing to put up with a poor story in a T&A flick if it means getting the goods. Once upon a time I would have agreed, but we're not limited to erotic thrillers nowadays. However 'Sexual Roulette' has a healthy quota of it's main draw.

LA couple Jed & Sally (Tim Abell, Gabriella Hall) have a sexy trip to Vegas on the eve of a big deal. However when they get back to town it's gone south. A local bartender at a strip club tells them about a sure thing on a horse race. Returning to Vegas, they bet 30k they don't have and naturally it goes bad. Enter Sherry (Tane McClure) as a seemly rich & mysterious lady who offers to settle the debt if Jed will sleep with her a la 'Indecent Proposal'.

Resist questioning certain elements or choices made. For the first half, Hall carries the nudity although there's that strip club scene. From the same makers of 'Illicit Dreams 2' allows reused footage of McClure & Abell getting it on in fantasies. Then McClure has her moment to shine as does the wife once more near the end. Nice shot of her butt as thong panties come off.

If this genre still floats your boat you'll be happy with 'Sexual Roulette'. Tane McClure does a good job playing damaged women, Hall is certainly attractive, but the tale being spun is equal parts silly & stupid. However as another reviewer said you can't be shocked at the quality of a film with a title like this.

A couple makes a bet that they cannot cover
DarylJGittings21 January 2024
Screenwriter Jed gets informed by his agent Marty that his contract has been cancelled. While Jed and Sally are at the local bar, their friend Chick offers to let them in on a big bet. There's a horse race with a $5,000 buy in. Jed and Sally ask to be put down for $30,000. Chick's betting tip goes wrong, and the couple have bet money that they don't have. Sally and Jed use their rent money to try to win back what they owe. Sherry offers Sally and Jed a suite at the casino. Sherry has special plans for Jed. She offers him $40,000 to spend the night with her. He reluctantly accepts, seeing it as the way to pay off the debt. Before he knows it he loses Sally and learns that Sherry enjoys playing this game.

Sexual Roulette is okay for a soft core erotic thriller. Tane McClure is attractive. Not a great movie by any means, but something you could watch once.

A cheap bore
Leofwine_draca24 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
CARNAL RISK (just one of many titles) is a very low grade erotic thriller set in Las Vegas. The main characters are a dull married couple with money issues that just get worse as the storyline progresses, leading to a gender-twist INDECENT PROPOSAL style storyline. Sadly, the extra-wooden acting and padded out sex scenes render the whole thing a cheap bore.

Lots of drama
VetteRanger14 February 2023
Yes, this softcore flick has lots of drama, and also lots of naked girls, which is of course why people like it.

A couple risks everything on a "can't miss horse" and of course it misses. The problem is they risked more than they actually could pay, then duck the meeting to pay off the bet through their friend. It gets him killed.

In the meantime, Tane McClure for some unknown reason gets the hots for the man and keeps making better and better offers for him to sleep with her.

She has a secret, and it involves the murderous bookie who also seems to be out after him. In the meantime, will his excuses to Gabriella Hall hold up? Thankfully, she finds her OWN action. ;-)

A roulette filled with hot sex!
insomniac_rod29 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
One of the best soft core sex movies of the 90's in my opinion. Tane McClure and Gabriela Hall shine on their roles mainly because they display decent acting skills. While Mrs. McClure delivers a very sexy performance with kinky and sexy sex scenes. Mrs. Hall is also very adequate and sexy in her role.

Think about "Fatal Attraction" with plenty of sex and steamy situations. There's sex all the way.

Highlights: the sex scene in the bathtub courtesy of Mrs. Hall, and the last hot sex scene with Mrs. McClure. Special mention for Mrs. McClure sex scene where she is wearing a sexy black dress.

The movie is pretty entertaining but absurd at some points but you can't expect much from soft core sex. This one is one of the best of it's kind.

One Of The Best Soft Core Feature Film Of Gabriella Hall
FilmMan475 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
i am huge soft core genre fan and specially any work where Gabriella hall is present this film sexual roulette came in 1996 i was 6 years old that time i recently saw this and can proudly say the direction is high class here by Gary Graver he shot all sexual scenes amazingly.

the plot:a couple comes to las Vegas and looses all of their money now the casino wants their money back in order to pay off the debt the husband gets involved in sexual favors.

the cast:Tane McClure & Gabriella Hall are two ladies that i really loved and enjoyed every scene they were in the good thing is they know how to act which is very rare these days.

the highlight is the background score its pure amazing its in the credits scene you can listen to it many times and get hooked.

the sex scenes in this film are pure breathtaking the director knew what he wanted and the result is fantastic its not a soft core film only for sensual theme but also got a good story and a deep message for people who love to gamble this film is not telling people to stay away from Vegas but giving a hint that don't waste money on casinos.

the end is tricky one it will get you thinking for a long time but despite that its a great film to watch quite underrated.

Overall My Rating For Sexual Roulette 1996 is 10/10. A Must See Film Highly Recommended For Soft Core Fans.

Las Vegas is the true beauty of this film.
BlackJack_B11 February 2002
Any time a film or show takes place in Las Vegas, it gets extra points from me. Las Vegas the city steals the show because it is a truly glamorous place to behold. It's also the setting for this low budget spin on the film Robert Redford wished he'd never have been in, Indecent Proposal.

Tim Abell and Gabriella Hall play a married couple from L.A. who frequent Vegas often. Apparently, they've never had much luck, but they survive. One day, a script that Jed Wills had written and was expecting to be paid for is cancelled, and they are broke. Then a friend offers to let them into a safe bet to double their money in a horse bet, they decide to bet money (even increasing the bet) they don't have, thinking it's a sure thing, but they lose, and now they need to find the money or there's going to be trouble. They somehow get a cash advance and try to play roulette for the money, but it fails. Then Jed meets up with a mysterious woman played by Tane McClure who promises to cover their bet if he does some things for him, and that's when the movie becomes just like Indecent Proposal.

The acting is here is pretty good for a drama, but the sex scenes aren't very good. Tane McClure did tighten her buns, but she's pretty stiff. As for Gabriella Hall, she was alright, but she's nothing mind-blowing, although I did like her in Centerfold. Tim Abell has an attitude throughout the film. I did love the twists and turns, and especially the ending, though. I was cheering for it. The reason I liked this film was Vegas. The mindblowing scenery just makes me want to return there and walk in the neon glow.

Welles' Nap
tedg19 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
I make a minor hobby out of finding bad films that are based on clever ideas. Oddly, soft core has many of these. I suppose it is because the genre supports many folks who have talent and are "just waiting." Gary Graver is an interesting case, someone who worked with Orson Welles when he really was trying to do something cool. So cool in fact it was probably impossible and certainly beyond what an audience could read anyway.

Here we have the standards: fake sex, fake boobs, fake acting and all. But we have a character that looks like Orson. And we have a Wellesian construction: a fabricated circumstance for amusement about a fabricated circumstance for amusement. Both are combined with caprice. The Welles character is the driver of events but in a twist we discover he really works for the viewer-voyeur. And then, and then, in the final analysis we have the result as an idea for a film, presumably the film we see. And around we go.

I wish I could say that the cinematography was as intelligently rooted. But we do have some competent conscious-shifting: a gravel-sweep to the right but with an annoying sound rather like canvas bags pushed on sandy concrete.

Ted's Evaluation -- 2 of 4: Has some interesting elements.
