The film production company Palladium did a lot of noteworthty films during the Thirties and Forties, and I think 'Lejlighhed til Leje' deserves some atttention. It is no big deal regarding drama nor actor's performances, but it pinpoints in a sympathetic way a widesprerad problem from the end of the war and twenty years on. The difficulty for mainly young people to find an affordable apartment. The scarceness of dwellings caused some east-europe like administration where you had to cue up for years to get an apartment. It helped if you got married and had children, so young people were tempted to break the strict moral values of the time and get offspring and that way force authorities to find a location for them. The film handles this conflict in a humorous way, and it brings together to young people applying for the same apartment and faking a relationship to get the rooms. Later when defending their right to maintain their lodgements to the authorities they make it just in the nick of time by revealing that the girl has actually become pregnant.
