Scott Bairstow, Devon Sawa, and Jonathan Taylor Thomas in Wild America (1997)

Goofs

Wild America

Edit

Continuity

Marshall uses his brothers' toothbrushes (the green and yellow ones) to clean the toilet, then places them back in the holders with their names on them. Marty's is yellow, Mark's is green and Marshall's is blue. Later that night, Marty is using the blue toothbrush, Mark is using the dirty green, and Marshall is using the dirty yellow one.
The scene where Marshall and Mark are in the swamp, Marty is clearly seen not filming them being chased by the alligator but later on in the movie, when they show their film they show the alligator chasing Mark and Marshall.
When the boys are going back to the cave after Mark has broken his leg, he is using one crutch and on the wrong leg. He is using it to support the leg without the cast, and putting full pressure on the cast. Later he switches the crutch to the other side.
When summer recess begins, all trees have green leaves in their home town. It's the same thing when they come back home after their journey. But nowhere else in the USA do we see one single green leaf during the whole summer. It's obvious most of the film was shot during another season (late autumn or early spring).

Factual errors

Bears don't start hibernation in late summer (Labor Day). They need the whole autumn to gain weight to carry them through the winter sleep. Otherwise they would starve to death before spring. And they don't do it like rattle snakes, many together in a big heap. They are solitary (exception: females with their newborn cubs).
When the boys are filming Marshals antics at the beginning of the movie, they use a Kodak Brownie 8mm camera. The Brownie was a spring wound camera. As the film was exposed the spring unwound and the winding key, visible on the side of the camera would turn. In this movie it doesn't. Further, the camera held only two minutes of film and the spring wind would expose less than one minute. Many of the sequences are longer than that. When they upgrade to 16mm we see them watching their first footage. They use a Bell & Howell 500 series sound projector. It's threaded wrong with the film coming off the back of the feed reel instead of the front. At the end of the movie they use the same projector to show their "unfinished" film and they use the same reels of film. Their complaint that they didn't shoot enough film to give a show is justified. Only 4 or 5 minutes of film is on the take-up reel when the show ends. Also, an equal amount is on the feed reel, unshown, even though they have apparently shown all the film they had.

Miscellaneous

When the Dad crashes his big rig truck, the shot inside the cab reveals a woman to his right with a lit cigarette in her hand. She grabs him on the right shoulder and then he swerves to the left. Don't know if she is giving him a cue to swerve or she is the "hidden" girlfriend. We never see her again though!

Audio/visual unsynchronised

When the boys are in the home after Mark breaks his leg, the woman holding the child says "You'll bunk here, don't want to be eaten by a bear". But you can see she finishes talking before the words end.
When Marshall says "Cut it out you guys" to his brothers, his mouth does not move.
When Marty and Mark pass the drive in to throw the firecracker you can hear a zippo lighter lid opening up but Mark lights the firecracker with a plastic lighter. Zippo lighter lids have a very unique sound.

Crew or equipment visible

In the cave, one of the snakes is clearly a fake one on a stick.
In the cave,,,when the bears are standing and growling big,,,you see the 3 boys in one scene, at the same time you can see a crew person on the right hand side holding something up with his hand.
